🇸🇳IKI-CREAF: Concrete actions to protect ecosystems and build community resilience
As part of the IKI-CREAF project (Climate Resilience for Critical Sites for Migratory Birds and People along the East Atlantic Flyway), Wetlands International supports local communities and protected area managers in implementing sustainable solutions to address the challenges of climate change.
📍 Strengthening monitoring of marine protected areas
✔️ Grant of 4,550 liters of fuel;
✔️ Installation of 112 awareness and boundary signs;
✔️ Provision of monitoring equipment: 3 outboard motors, 1 motor tricycle, 3 motorcycles, 1 10-meter canoe, and 38 life jackets.
📍 Strengthening community resilience
✔️ Training of 50 people from 3 GIEs on income-generating activities: vegetable farming, poultry farming, processing of timber and non-timber products, aquaculture, and aquaponics.
📍 Sustainable protection of ecosystems
✔️ Training of 20 people from 13 GIEs on techniques for building improved stoves;
✔️ Construction of 150 improved stoves, helping to reduce pressure on mangroves and combat deforestation.
These achievements illustrate Wetlands International’s commitment to promoting nature-based solutions that balance biodiversity conservation with improved
