Activity: National Lobbying on Youth Policy Implementation

Today, 12th August 2026, the Executive Director of Children’s Education Development Organization Sierra Leone (CEDO-SL) joined other youth-focused organizations, stakeholders, and partners to commemorate International Youth Day 2026.

The celebration was held under the theme “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” highlighting the importance of unity, inclusion, meaningful youth participation, and collective action in addressing the challenges and aspirations of young people.

As part of the celebration, participants engaged in national lobbying for effective youth policy implementation, emphasizing the need to transform policies and commitments into practical opportunities that directly benefit young people across Sierra Leone.

CEDO-SL reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for policies that empower young people, strengthen their participation in decision-making, promote education and skills development, and create opportunities for sustainable livelihoods and leadership.

The Executive Director also joined fellow organizations in calling on relevant stakeholders to prioritize youth voices and ensure that young people are not only beneficiaries of development policies but are also active partners in shaping the future of Sierra Leone.

CEDO-SL remains committed to amplifying youth voices, building capacities, and contributing to a future where every young person has the opportunity to participate, lead, and thrive.

Building Young Leaders for a Better Sierra Leone 🇸🇱

On Monday, 10th August 2026, members representing the Children’s Education Development Organization Sierra Leone (CEDO-SL) actively participated in an impactful training session held at the Ministry of Social Welfare Office in Port Loko City.

The training focused on “Transformational Leadership and Social Change” and the training is sponsored by the Centre for Coordination of Youth Activities CCYA

The session brought together young people and community stakeholders with the aim of strengthening leadership skills, promoting positive social change, and empowering participants to become responsible and effective leaders within their communities.

Through interactive discussions, knowledge sharing, and practical learning, participants explored the importance of transformational leadership, teamwork, accountability, effective communication, community engagement, and youth participation in development.

CEDO-SL is proud to have been represented at this important initiative. We believe that investing in young people today is an investment in the future of Sierra Leone.

Baseline Assessment Engagement with CCYA

On Wednesday, 6th May 2025, the Children's Education Development Organization Sierra Leone (CEDO-SL) successfully conducted a baseline assessment engagement with the Center Coordination of Youth Activities (CCYA).

The purpose of this important engagement was to strengthen collaboration, assess current educational and youth development challenges, and identify strategic areas where both organizations can work together to improve the lives of children and young people within our communities.

The meeting created a platform for meaningful discussions centered on education, youth empowerment, community participation, and sustainable development initiatives. Representatives from both CEDO-SL and CCYA shared valuable insights, experiences, and recommendations aimed at building stronger support systems for children and vulnerable youths across Sierra Leone.

CEDO-SL remains committed to promoting quality education, child protection, and youth development through partnerships and community-driven initiatives. We believe that collaborative efforts like this baseline assessment will contribute greatly toward achieving lasting impact and positive transformation.

Meet Alusine Musa Bangura – Founder & Executive Director, Children’s Education Development Organization Sierra Leone (CEDO-SL)
Alusine Musa Bangura is the Founder and Executive Director of the Children’s Education Development Organization Sierra Leone (CEDO-SL), a child-focused non-governmental organization based in Port Loko City. Driven by passion and concern for the future of children in Port Loko District and the Country at large, Mr. Bangura established CEDO-SL to address the growing challenges affecting children’s access to quality education across the country.
Speaking on the establishment of the organization, Mr. Bangura explained that CEDO-SL was born out of the need to respond to alarming realities discovered during surveys conducted in different chiefdoms within the Port Loko District. These surveys revealed that a significant number of children have dropped out off school due to various factors especially young girls. Among the most common issues identified were the loss of one or both parents, unstable parental homes, economic hardship, and lack of proper guidance and support.
He further highlighted that some children are influenced by negative peer lifestyles, which often lead them into early relationships and early pregnancy, especially among young girls. These challenges continue to deprive many children of their right to education and a better future.
In response to these findings, CEDO-SL has been actively engaged in school visitations, where the organization provides motivational talks, guidance, and educational support packages to pupils. According to Mr. Bangura, these visits are aimed at encouraging children to stay in school, believe in themselves, and understand the value of education despite the challenges they face.
Mr. Bangura also emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in a child’s education. He noted that during school reopening activities, CEDO-SL ensures the involvement of key stakeholders, including parents, pupils, and teachers. This inclusive approach helps strengthen cooperation and commitment toward improving children’s learning environments.
It is based on this vision that CEDO-SL has decided to extend charity support and build strong partnerships with various schools in Port Loko District. Through these partnerships, the organization hopes to create sustainable solutions that will reduce school dropout rates and promote a brighter, more secure future for children across Sierra Leone.
