Thank you for praying for baby Jongo. We are grateful she made it through surgery. We are waiting for further reports, but this was an important step towards recovery!
Sadly, we lost another two of our children: Hawa Senesie, a sweet little girl with severe disabilities, and bright, friendly 13-year-old Janet Pieh. Janet was somehow unsupervised doing laundry at the riverside when she had a seizure and drowned. Her death reminds us of the need to keep educating communities about the risks associated with epilepsy. We pray God will comfort those who grieve the loss of these two girls.

A little update on Baby Jongo. She was admitted to the hospital in Freetown. However, her surgery had to be postponed due to a cold and a bad diaper rash, for which she is now treated. Please pray for a fast recovery, so the surgery can take place next week. Pray also that kind people will come alongside her and her mother. Thank you!

Fifty years ago today, on June 16, 1976, black school children in South Africa peacefully protested the poor quality of their education. They also demanded to be taught in their own languages. The police met the group of children with dogs, tear gas and live ammunition. Hundreds of them were shot and one boy was killed.
Since 1991 this day has been commemorated as the “Day of the African Child”, and is used as a continuing reminder of the need to improve education for indigenous African Children
The staff of Nyandengoh! took the initiative to celebrate the day with games, story-telling and a good meal. They had a fun time together and celebrated the winner with a beautiful bouquet! Let’s continue to support access to education for all children – including those with disabilities!

Please join us in prayer for Baby Jongo, who was born with spina bifida. In Europe or the USA, babies like her are kept in special care units and undergo surgery a day or two after they are born. Baby Jongo had to wait for three months in a small rural village, where her mom faithfully cared for her at home. Miraculously, she survived. With support from Nyandengoh!, they travelled to Freetown this weekend, for Baby Jongo to have surgery on Wednesday. Please pray for Dr. Lebbie, a doctor supported by BethanyKids, who will do the surgery, for good and compassionate nurses to take care of her, and for a complete recovery without complications.

"Baby Yannie" was brought to Nyandengoh! when he was only two days old. He was born with bilateral clubfeet and possibly other disabilities that could not be fully assessed yet. Our staff member Jengbe interviewed the mother and was able to arrange for her travel to the city of Bo, where Baby Yannie immediately started treatment for his feet. Whenever Jengbe was in Bo for business, he would stop by and see the mother and child, assisting them with some funds for food and transport. The baby seemed to be doing well. Sadly, we received news that Baby Yannie contracted pneumonia and quickly passed away last night. His mother is heartbroken and the team is grieving yet another loss. Please keep them all in your prayers!

The completion of the kitchen draws the construction phase at the Nyandengoh! compound to a close. Aunty Mary is so happy to have a simple, but beautiful place to prepare food for the children attending the daycare and school. As the nutrition expert, she also teaches mothers of malnourished children to prepare a high-protein porridge made with local ingredients. We can’t wait to receive the next group of them in style!

We lost another little one ... The fourth child this year... Our children are so vulnerable and the health care system is so fragile and woefully inadequate for the needs of children living with disabilities. Please pray for those who loved him, for the Nyandengoh! team who tried hard to get him the care he needed, and for any effort that is made to improve the health care systems of Sierra Leone.
As usual, the Nyandengoh! team will honor Mikailu's life with a short memorial service in his community.

We are so grateful to everyone who joined us on Saturday to open our new Nyandnegoh! office and celebrate our 7th Anniversary. A special Thank You to Luis for cutting the ribbon, pastor Blaine for offering a prayer and ReNew Coffee Co. for their generous support! God answered our prayers and after a slight delay we had perfect weather conditions!

We don’t often share numbers, but as we celebrate our seventh birthday, we gratefully report that since our inception, Nyandengoh! has served more than 200 children with disabilities in Bonthe district. Our first child was a boy with learning disabilities and a congenital heart defect. He is still attending our school. The latest one we enrolled is a little boy with “windswept legs”, who we are treating with Vitamin D and Calcium. This illustrates the wide variety of disabilities we are seeing, simply because there are no other alternatives in Bonthe District. We hope to increase our numbers and services over the coming years, but rather than being known for our growth, we pray that we are known because we love each child, each family well.
