E-Nable Sierra Leone We are a group of volunteers helping amputees in Sierra Leone We are a group of volunteers working in Sierra Leone.

During the the 90s, hundreds of adults and children lost their hands and arms to the brutality of the Civic War. Some charity organisations promised to help, but many of these amputees have been neglected and forgotten.

3D-printed functional prosthetics represent a new and affordable way to deliver hope to this far corner of the world. We can produce wrist-powered hands and elbow-powered arms at

the cost of £50-200 a piece, depending on the quality of the plastics. Your donations will help us to find the best prothestic materials and models most suitable for use in tropical Africa. Part of the funding will also be used to train amputees and give them a life skill to support themselves.

Our first ENABLE Scholar has graduated from college! Congratulations to Alhaji. We are extremely proud to be part of your success story!

Since 2023, ENABLE Sierra Leone has been supporting a small number young Sierra Leoneans from disadvantaged background to access college education in Makeni, covering tuition fees, dissertation fee, exam fees, graduation fee as well as subsidising laptop computers.

A big thank you to all our donors and fundraisers. Your support is much appreciated!

This year, ENABLE continues to sponsor the Makeni Single Leg Amputee football team, covering the cost of transport and water for their weekly practice. Although it is not a huge amount, this support has turned out to be crucial in keeping the team together. Without it, some players simply cannot come to the football field. ENABLE is also helping to replace broken crutches, as the game is actually quite physical. So play on Makeni SLA!

Thanks to your generosity, we are able to support five ENABLE Scholars in their university education in Sierra Leone! One scholar has sat his final exam, two are progressing to Year 2, and another two have started Year 1. Their subjects include education, agriculture, public administration, physical education, and microbiology. Each of these bright students has their own unique attributes and their own dreams. To help them getting through their courses, ENABLE is also subsidizing the cost of assignments, laptop computers, dissertation printing and lab coat! In addition, we are also helping six orphans to pay for their college exam fees.

We hope that these young people will find their niche and contribute to a better future in Mama Salone. And we simply could not have done it without your support. Tenki Plenti (Thanks a million!)

In the past year, we have been helping amputees and orphans by installing solar lights, buying food and medicines, paying for surgeries, providing college scholarships and supporting the Makeni single leg football team. We even helped some unvaccinated young people to catch up with the childhood immunizations that they never had a chance to receive. A BIG BIG thank you to all our donors and crowdfunding champions for making all of these possible. Thank you for bringing hope to this underappreciated part of Africa :)

2024 繼續照亮西非 Happy Announcement 🌞🌞🌞 Earlier this year, ENABLE Sierra Leone has completed another round of solar panels and lights installation for amputees living off-grid. Because of your generous support to our GoFundMe crowdfunding, we were able to provide 50% subsidies to 14+1 families, who now have light in their house.

This time round, the local supplier is Orange Sierra Leone and the solar bundle is Sun King Home 200X, each containing: solar panel (11 Watt, expandable), 3 tube lights (600 lumens, 3 modes), battery control unit (28Wh Lithium-ion NMC), USB phone charging cable. ENABLE paid for half of the bundle in advance and each participating family pays the rest over 1 year using “Orange money” on mobile phone.

Our 2023-2024 solar journey has not been straight forward. If you are interested, please click on the photos to find out more 🌞🌞🌞

::: ENABLE Sierra Leone Scholarship ::: This year we are piloting a new way to support disadvantaged young people. Amputees and orphans in Makeni were invited to apply for scholarship. To be eligible, candidates must have been accepted to study at a local higher education institution or have the necessary WASSCE* high school grades to be admitted. They must also demonstrate that, without financial assistance, they would not have any means to further their education.

There were nine applicants in total, four were shortlisted for interview based on academic achievement. Three students have been selected on the strength of their application letter and interview performance. ENABLE Sierra Leone will cover their college registration and tuition fee for one academic year. Further support is subject to college performance and funding availability.

Congratulations to our inaugural ENABLE Scholars Alhaji, Fatmata, and Hassan. They study education, agriculture and public health in Makeni, Northern Sierra Leone. We wish them the very best of luck!

* West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE

感恩 GIVING THANKS to all our donors, on behalf of the orphans under the care of Bambay. ENABLE has been sending money to the orphanage once a quarter so it can buy rice and food. Because of your generous support, they are BELLY FULL 😄

Bambay is keen to show that they are not just sitting there waiting for handouts. When the kids are not at school, they sometimes go and help out at the farm near the Asker Amputee Camp. There, together with the Asker children, they would learn to grow corn and sweet potatoes, and harvest the produce so the adults can go and sell in the market. Please take a look at the photos Bambay sent over. Tenki plenti!

博、愛 ::: Kindness can make this world a better place ::: In 2023, we continue to support children and adults of the Makeni Single Leg football team in Sierra Leone. If they get sick, injured or need urgent operations, we do our best to pay for medicines and cover hospital bills. If their gear needs replacing, we help them to buy crutches, rubber ferrules, football, etc. ENABLE is also paying for water, coaching and transport for the team's weekly Saturday practice.

The team is slowly expanding, as younger amputees join. With every match they play and every goal they score, it is our wish that they will have more confidence on the pitch and more hope in life.

Once again, thank you for your donation and support. I will blog about ENABLE's support for the orphanage next. - Ed Choi

人生馬拉松 We proudly sponsor 30 amputees running the 2023 Sierra Leone marathon in Makeni today. They have such boundless energy it’s just extraordinary! Some of the young ones said running 5K is easier than football practice!! Because of COVID, we are running low of funds, so if you want the Single Leg Football team to keep playing and keep running, please donate to our GoFundMe page. It takes $200 + medical to run the football team for 3 months. Thank you!

感覺好像受勳一樣 Back in 2020, ENABLE Sierra Leone helped to install solar lights for the whole Panlap Amputee Camp, including Mr T. After COVID, we finally get to meet again and Mr T has made me an embroided ENABLE shirt! When he put it on me today, I felt as if I have been knighted.

What an honour. Tenki plenti 🙏🏽 Happy tears!
