In what many have hailed as a monumental leap forward for the Department of Mass Communication, His Excellency Ibrahim Saidu Bangura, President of the Association of Mass Communicators (AMCU), has once again proven that transformative leadership is not about talk—it’s about tangible impact.
Yesterday, during the grand finale of the Annual Late Abdul Charles Mansaray Debate Championship, the AMCU President unveiled a brand-new Bluetooth speaker system procured for the department by the AMCU Executive 2024/25, underscoring the administration’s commitment to enhancing the learning environment of the department.
But the surprises didn’t stop there. In a historic moment for practical journalism and student-led media, Prezo Saidu officially established the Mass Communication Media Team—a pioneering move that will empower students to learn, lead, and implement classroom knowledge on the ground.
The Media Team, strategically headed by three of the department’s finest — Abu H. Kargbo, Beatrice Kamara, and Amidu Kallon — is tasked with driving hands-on media practice by covering campus events, managing departmental content, and giving students the opportunity to experience real-world media work in real time.
“We cannot speak of being communicators if we do not practice communication. This team is not just a body — it’s a legacy; a living lab where students will write, film, record, edit, and broadcast their own narratives. This is how transformation begins,” said Prezo Saidu to roaring applause.
To ensure the team starts strong and stays active, the President presented a Start-Up Media Kit, comprising a full professional tripod package and two set mic recorders—essential tools for quality production and on-the-go reporting. This deliberate investment signals a new era of media practice, content creation, and experiential learning within the department.
The President noted that this move is in line with the executive’s broader vision to "Bridge Theory with Practice," a vision that continues to inspire confidence, pride, and purpose among students of the Mass Communication Department.
This administration, under the bold leadership of His Excellency Ibrahim Saidu Bangura, is setting the gold standard — a government not only focused on events and policies, but on building lasting systems, legacies, and platforms for future Mass Communicators to thrive.
As the AMCU Executive 2024/25 continues to roll out initiatives that inspire and impact, one thing is certain: this is not just leadership — it is visionary governance in motion.
Long live AMCU!🙌🏾

Martin C. Kamara
