This is Brima Ngegba, one of Advocate for Social Justice and Development - A S J D- SL diligent Field Officers who volunteered to be the Disc Joker when the music set was bought for child sponsorship.

Brima is captured with one of our community ambassadors at Canaan Community flaunting their dancing skills before in a competion that the host community representative took personally and won with ease.

Child sponsorship is all about funs. Communication should be done with ease. The kids enjoy the funs and eagerly await to play, sing and dance as they write their messages to their sponsorers. This time of the year is always exciting as the community ambassadors (children) write to their supporters in the Global North.

In this first media collection exercise, is collecting messages and photos update with funds from ActionAid Sierra Leone.

With funding from ActionAid Sierra Leone on a Project Tiled: Livelihood Support to Children and their Families, Advocate for Social Justice and Development - A S J D- SL held a day Training at Bumpeh Women's Agric Site and Support Six (6) Women's Groups on Agronomic Practices and provide seeds and tools of 60 Women to Engage in Backyard Gardening.

The aim of this training is to increase these women groups' knowledge and skills in Agronomic Practices on their backyard gardens, to support alternative livelihood skills to secure better opportunities to increase income and sustain educational support for their children, wards and vulnerable children in their respective communities.

The Agriculture Extension Officer, Mr Gibril Santigie Sesay from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and the CEO of Yormatah Sierra AgriTech Hubs, Aiah Emmanuel Gborie rolled out the practical trainings on their backyard gardening with supported seedlings like maize, okra, concumber, Garden egg, pepper, beans and other assorted seedlings ( potato veins and cassava stalks). Key guides were given on how to prepare the gardens, the use of household manures, when and how to plants these crops, when to undertake weeding, detect army worms on crops, and the importance of distancing crops, the measurement and depth to plants.

These Six (6) women groups were supported with tools such as watering cans, shovels, hoes, cutlass, rakes, head pans, to boost their groups on smart agricultural backyard gardening endeavors.
These women will be given grants to boost their VSLAs and backyard gardening in Bandafayie, Bumpeh and Jaima Communities.

Advocate for Social Justice and Development - A S J D- SL in a Project Titled: "Livelihood Support to Children and their Families in Mining" with funding from ActionAid Sierra Leone held a day training on Strengthening (30 women)Three VSLA Groups and Provide Support to Three Women's Groups in Three Mining Communities. ( Assessment and Refresher Training for 30 Women from Three Groups).

The training was aiming to support 90 women with grants to engage in small scale enterprise and economic livelihood to support their children's education, raising awareness in Mining Communities on key policies that promote and protect the rights of children, savings mobilization and loan management and agribusiness investment planning for sustainable development.
The two facilitators were Aiah Emmanuel Gborie, the Chief Executive Officer and Ambassador Yaah from Sierra AgricTech Hub.
These women were supported with calculators, padlocks, ledger books, rulers, pens, plastic chairs, bucket bowls, stamp pads and rubber inks, VSLA boxes and pass books to augment their groups effectiveness.

Key amongst the topics covered was to transform VSLA organizations into self-financing agricultural enterprises, financing small scale agribusiness investments, building capital for expansion across multiple value chains, VSLA and micro finance, community resources mapping, resource analysis and investment opportunities, income sustainability and loan decision-making, personal capacity assessment, VSLA formation and loan management, Action planning and way forward or next steps.

The training was attended by VSLA participants from Bumpeh, Bandafayie and Bumpeh in Nimikor Chiefdom- Kono District. The Senior Social Services Officer from the Ministry of Gender, Bakish Kanu; local media houses, university interns, volunteers and staff of were all in attendance.

Sponsorship Manager from ActionAid Sierra Leone, Brima Mansaray held two days intensive training on Child Sponsorship digitilization and software systems for staff, community animators, volunteers and interns.
This training is aiming at increasing the knowledge base, building the capacities of Child sponsorship Frontliners to be able to use and sail through the Child Sponsorship App conveniently whilst at field work and for Advocate for Social Justice and Development - A S J D- SL Managers to operate the SK system conveniently, taking prompt actions as demands arise. This will help maintain sponsorship children in the scheme while servicing their sponsorers , increase sponsorship funding and community development opportunities.

The training was able to cover staff and volunteers navigating through the Child Sponsorship App: looking at templates like profile collection and consent forms, facts and figures, community voices, gift fund, good case stories writings and the SK System.

This 2026, ASJD will be collecting 1,095 new profiles, while serving the sponsorship supporters.

Advocate for Social Justice and Development - A S J D- SL with funds from ActionAid Sierra Leone commemorated the International Women's Day in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender and Children's Affairs, alongside Civilization Society organizations and like-minded institutions under the theme: "Rights, Justice, Action: For All Women and Girls" in Kono District.

This year's event like previously, is aiming at rallying points and actions for government, Civil Society Groups, District Stakeholders, primary Justice system and communities to reflect on progress and bottlenecks facing women and girls. Underscoring the urgency of translating reforms into real change, amplify voices calling for justice and accountability; inspire collective actions; galvanize awareness, advocacy and building solidarity across all levels.
Powerful and emotional messages like societal ills against women/girls and their presence in demanding what is rights: "Nothing about us without us.” Their march through the city echoed their voices with visible placards was not only a celebration of Women’s resilience but also a passionate call for justice and accountability in the face of a disturbing act of sexual violence and the protection of girls in the district.

This year's Commemoration assembled women from the media, civil society organizations, Paramount Chiefs, District Council Chairman, market women, pupils and students from the universities and a Member of Parliament.
The key not address was delivered by Hon. Rebecca Yei Sam, who cautioned women not to relent as their are laws protecting their aspirations across all decision making roles; and girls should be girls as their education now protect the future generations.

The Executive Director of Advocate for Social Justice and Development - A S J D- SL Arthur Kargbo gave an ethical behavioural talks to Girls Empowerment Network Sierra Leone as they prepared to host their 2nd edition of Girls Camping at Lion Mountain Hotel from the 13th to 14th February, 2026 where stakeholders across the country will be invited to interface with these crop of young girls that will soon occupy various positions of trust in Sierra Leone.

The Executive Director of ASJD is a Human Rights Activist whose efforts over the past decades are to promote ethical behaviours across all levels and see how gender responsive planning and budgeting can improve peoples' wellbeings; bringing tangible developments to numerous communities and districts; advocating for pro poor policies; development of women and girls; climate change and women empowerment champion; efficient utilization of our natural resources and governance that directly impacts the rural poor especially marginalized girls, women and youths.

In his talk show, he emphasized the fundamental concepts of ethics and values emphasizing core principles that guide our actions. The training highlighted the importance of responsibilities and principles. Encouraging all and sundry to upload integrity, accountability, and respect in all interactions particularly on how to engage respectfully and constructively with colleagues and stakeholders, fostering a culture of trust and openness.

Participants learned partical ways to uphold ethical standards in our daily works
Including, making principled decisions even in challenging situations, respecting diverse perspectives and maintaining professionalism.

One of the participants concluded that "fostering ethical behaviours is not just about adhering to rules but also cultivating a mindset of responsibility, honesty, and respect. As future leaders and role models, it's our duty to embody these values and inspire others to do the same"- remaked the District Coordinator and co founder, 'Professor' Lamin Sheriff.

Climate change has become a global threats to our modern society. It has created permanent and devastating impacts on our modes of consumption and production.
Mining operations has high physical risks to communities. It faces severe and interconnected crisis from climate change due to environmental degradation, water scarcity, health issues and socio-economic instability caused by mining.
The young people in kono District will continue to cascade climate justice messages, community resilience and collaborate with like minded institutions.

With high expectations that must deliver, Advocate for Social Justice and Development - A S J D- SL with funds from ActionAid Sierra Leone organized two days climate conference with young people in collaboration with Environmental Protection Agency, Ministry of Environment and Kono District Council Environmental Department to district wide assess climate impact and community realities, mitigation and resilience; with the theme: "Climate Promises Must be Kept! Our Future Cannot Wait."
We discussed climate justice issues in solidarity with global climate actions week taking place at in Belem- Brazil.

"Climate change is above environmental issues; it affects our developments as a nation and threatens human Security. Kono as a mining community is not safe; storm and other disasters have subdued us and food insecurity are now part of our lives ", the Executive Director Director, Arthur A. Kargbo commented.

This climate justice conference brought together Environmental Protection Agency Regional Manager, Mr Abdul Kebbie, EPA Environmental Officer, Martin Allieu, Ministry of Environment, Mr Tamba Mark Kamanda, Kono District Environmental Officer, Foday Marrah, Media Houses, young people from the universities in Kono and like-minded CSOs/CBOs and grassroots organizations.

Emmanuel Aiah Gborie, District Coordinator for Yormata Farmers Association concluded: "This generation has succeeded in depriving our children of seeing life elephants, lions, leopards, baboons,buffalo. Girls take the risks to walk long distance to fetch clean and safe drinking water in most communities in the dries; women bear the brunt to get their livelihoods in the most inconsistent ways ever to have recorded as the realities of climate change now live with us. This climate justice is not about environmental protection anymore, but it is about survival and people's dignity.
