CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANISATIONS OF SIERRA LEONE IN PRESS RELEASE CONDEMNED THE UTTERANCES OF POLITICAL PARTIES THAT WILL ERODE PEACE AND SECURITY AHEAD OF THE 2028 MULTI-TIER ELECTIONS

Today 25th October 2025, H.E President Julius Maada Bio inaugurate the newly constructed Maternal Centre of Excellence in Kono District.. The facility built by the Partners In Health and NGO in collaboration with the Government of Sierra Leone is being named after the CEO ( In his blessed memory) Paul E.Farmer who had the vision of improving healthcare in Kono District long ago.
The Paul E.Farmer Maternal Centre of Excellence in Koidu aimed at reducing all preventable maternal deaths in Sierra Leone.The Maternal Centre of Excellence (MCoE) is said to constitute 120 -bed maternity ward and with a specialized baby care unit with a neonatal intensive care unit attached to the facility, it is believed to be the first in the entire country.The MCoE also compromises of other important facilities such as dormitory, lecture halls , simulation rooms, library, computer laboratory, training site and many more.
The facility is said to address perennial problems associated with pregnancy,childbirth and other reproductive health challenges in the district and the country at large .
Stakeholders present appreciated PIH and President Bio’s Government in addressing the historical injustice meted on the people of Kono long since.
The Paramount of Gbense in his statement appealed to H.E President to standby his campaign promises made to people by looking into Koidu- Kamiendor Guinea road construction, the issue of pipe borne water for the Koidu municipality and the construction of the Kono University of Science and Technology (KUST) that has been stalled for the past years now with no progress. “Your Excellency sir, your name will go down in the history of Kono if you are able to address these promises made before the end of your tenure “

The Judiciary of Sierra Leone under the leadership of His Lordship Chief Justice Komba Kamanda has on the 16th October 2025 officially commission the newly refurbished Sefadu Magistrate Court in Kono District.The event attracted host of Judiciary staff, high court judges, resident judges, Magistrates, traditional authorities including Paramount Chiefs, tribal authorties,elected officials, councils, development partners, the security sectors,women's groups, NGOs, private sectors, business community, drivers union ,okada riders,Civil Society Organisations and the Media.
During the commission, various speakers laid emphasis on the need for the transformation of the judiciary as the third of arm of government interms of promoting human and access to Justice.The Chief Justice highlighted key successes under his leadership since his was appointment as Chief Justice, this includs the assigning of resident Judges and Magistrates to most districts,the passage of the Criminal Procedure Act,the releasing of prisoners from most correctinal centres with minor offenses ,the decongestion of most correctinal centres and the rebranding of the judiciary sector of Sierra Leone.

Chief Justice Komba Kamanda said there are plans to start mobile Magistrate Court sitting across the Chiefdom head quarter towns as a way of promoting access to Justice in the rural communities as most residents often paid huge transportation fare to come court in Koidu .He also delved into to the challenges of the local court chairmen are going through in terms dispensing their functions at the Chiefdom levels.He said this is under serious discussion for sustainable solutions.He assured all present that the judiciary will work to make the law accessible and affordable for ALL whether rich of poor.He said he is proud as a son of the soil especially the support accorded to by the Paramount Chiefs of Kono District.He also appreciated his colleagues,the media and all for making this event a success.

Civil Society Organisations in Kono District has joined both Councils , traditional authorities,Local Women ,NGOs ,bike riders and the private sector partners in the welcoming of the European Union called the EU in Kono District 1st October 2025.The EU Bus tour was to strengthen the relationship between the EU and the local people across Sierra Leone.The people were happily received by all during the visit as they visited project sites and conducted open discussions with council staff and the locals on the impact of the development projects implemented .
