Secretary General of the Voice of Children Sierra Leone, Meet With Honourable Boston Munda of Constituency 021-Kenema City.

Date: 8th July, 2026.

Today, in my capacity as the National Secretary General for the Voice of the Children Sierra Leone, I had the distinct privilege of sitting down with Honorable Boston Munda of Constituency 021, Kenema city at his office-Parliament Administrative Building Tower Hill, Freetown.

We navigated topics that are integral to the objects of our organisation,how we can truly empower our children and youths to become the backbone of sustainable development in Kenema city and Sierra Leone by extension.

Our conversation was incredibly eye opening, and we focused on three major pillars:

1. Protecting Children’s Rights: Looking at Real, Actionable ways to Safeguard Young Persons and Ensure Their Voices are Heard.

2. Building Skills: Invaluable Mentorship on the Fundamentals of Effective Project Writing and a Crucial tool for Real Youths Empowerment.

3. Smart Digital Citizens: We Discussed how we can Guide our Children and Youths to use Social Media Responsibly, Build a Positive Online Presence, and Stay Safe From Cyber Security Risks.

It was incredibly refreshing to meet a leader like Honorable Boston Munda, who doesn't just talk about the future but has real, inspiring plans for the young people of the Eastern Region and the entire nation. His insight only reinforces what we already know, investing in the next generation is the only way to build a stronger Sierra Leone.

Let’s all commit to lifting up our youths and protecting our children. They aren't just the future, they are the architects of a brighter tomorrow, right now.

The Voice of Children-Sierra Leone is poised to working with Honourable Munda to amplify the voice of children, and device workable remedies to ameliorating the problems faced by children and youths.

Celebrating the resilience, brilliance, and limitless potential of the African child through school tours and radio engagements.

June 16th International Day of the African Child

This day is more than a date on the calendar, it is a living reminder of the 1976 Soweto uprising, when courageous young students marched for their right to quality education. Today, we honor their memory and reaffirm our stand against injustice in all its forms(Xenophobia ).

African children and youths are not just the future, they are the present. They are the innovators, storytellers, tech-creators, influencers, advocates, and leaders already transforming our world.

But true celebration must come with commitment. Every child deserves:
• Safe, quality education
• Protection of fundamental human rights
• The freedom to dream without boundaries

Let us continue to invest in children and youths in Sierra Leone. Let us listen to them, entrust them with leadership roles, and uplift them in every walk of life. They carry the heritage of a beautiful continent and the promise of a brighter tomorrow.

🌿 Birdwatching Session – Our Unforgettable Day at Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary 🦜🕊️🦅

On Saturday, 31st January 2026, The Voice of the Children Sierra Leone (VOC-SL), together with the Birding and Conservation Club Sierra Leone, embarked on a truly unforgettable birdwatching session at Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary. What an incredible experience it was! From breathtaking scenery to eye-opening environmental realities, the day left us inspired, concerned, and determined to take action.

The walk commenced from the newly constructed car park and continued along the Congo Dam trail, offering participants a rich blend of forest, wetland, and riparian habitats.

For us at VOC-SL, this was not just a birding exercise, but a chance to reconnect with nature and better understand the role birds play as indicators of healthy ecosystems.

Throughout the walk, several species were observed and identified, reflecting the high biodiversity of the Tacugama landscape.
Species recorded include:

• White-tailed Alethe
• Red-bellied Paradise Flycatcher
• Western Bearded Greenbul
• Grey Longbill
• Green Crombec
• Kemp’s Longbill
• Honeyguide Greenbul
• White-throated Bee-eater
• Yellow-whiskered Greenbul
• Yellow-throated Tinkerbird
• Tawny-flanked Prinia
• Wood Sandpiper
• Palm-nut Vulture
• Red-tailed Greenbul
• Western Oriole
• Reed Cormorant
• Swamp Palm Bulbul
• Senegal Coucal

As members of VOC-SL, we reaffirm our commitment to promoting bird conservation, environmental education, child advocacy, and nature appreciation across Sierra Leone. We look forward to more excursions, increased participation, and continued learning in the months ahead.
