Through support from Commonwealth Foundation, Humanist Watch Salone(HUWASAL) has in November, 2025 facilitated community outreach sessions in five communities in Kenema district on climate change, its interconnection to human rights, social justice and livelihood growth. The engagement created frank conversations platform with community members to understand climate change and it effects that related to human rights, social justice and community livelihoods and as well provided insightful need to developed community-led solution actions that foster community mitigation and adaptation to climate change. A total of 750 community residents were in attendance of which 337 were women. The conversation was gender focused that ensured gender inclusivity and priorities in the developed community action plan.

Humanist Watch Salone (HUWASAL) has ended training in Entrepreneurship and business development as well as financial literacy and loan application with 150 TVET graduates (EDSSF beneficiaries) in Kenema City under EU funded ‘From Classroom to Commerce: Empowering Youth Employability and Entrepreneurship’ a consortium project under implementation by HUWASAL, RODA and MADAM in Bombali, Bo and Kenema District . The four days training conducted by TVET Instructors of the first cohorts of EDSSF beneficiaries. The training empowered participants to establish and manage profitable businesses thus enabling them to become self-employ as well as to create employment opportunities for other like-minded young people in the community. Up to 40% participants were female and 10% persons with disabilities.

HUWASAL in collaboration with MADAM with funding from EU in the implementation of ‘From Classroom to Commerce: Empowering Youth Employability and Entrepreneurship’ concluded two days stakeholders awareness raising session in Kenema City on the availability of Entrepreneurship Development Support Scheme Fund (EDSSF). The event brought together stakeholders who include Kenema District and City Councils, Traditional Leaders, TVET Institutions, Private Sectors and Civil Society Organizations as well as TVET graduates. The discussions disclosed project objectives, geographical coverage, donor and partners and fund availability and application procedures. This critical engagement of stakeholders clearly ensured transparency, inclusion and accountability in project activities. 90 participants ( 55 male and 35 female were in attendance).

The 16th and 17th, September 2025 marked the launch of the Commonwealth Foundation funded project in Kenema and Kailahun Districts “Building community resilience, Safeguarding Biodiversity and a Healthy Ecosystem in Eastern Sierra Leone”. The event brought together project stakeholders including CSOs, Local Council and other relevant state actors. The activity served as stakeholders’ project orientation and implementation planning thus stimulate collectiveness in project decision-making to ensure stakeholders ownership drive throughout project life. Participants expressed collective support in achieving the desired results as the issue of climate change universally affects community social wellbeing with devastating effects on livelihood security and growth. The unwavering support expressed by participants, indicates project relevance to addressing climate change through community -led solutions. Project implementation is in partnership with Movement for Resettlement and Rural Development (MoRRD)

HUWASAL has entered into a partnership grant agreement with Commonwealth Foundation in the UK to implement a 2 year consortium project with MoRRD( September 1, 2025 to August 30, 2027).The project is titled" Building community resilience on climate change, safeguard biodiversity and healthy ecosystem in eastern Sierra Leone ' . Though, it is a small grant but it's a stepping forward to HUWASAL recognition within the international society of development. Implementation targets 30 communities in Kailahun and Kenema, MoRRD will implement field activities in Kailahun district while HUWASAL implement _field activities in Kenema district and as well responsible to manage the overall grant implementation.
