Today at the Kenema Diocesan Hall, Caritas Sierra-Kenema organized a Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop on safeguarding, specifically targeting representatives from Catholic schools across Kenema.
The workshop brought together school teachers and students to strengthen their capacity on safeguarding issues within the school environment. The training focused on equipping participants with practical knowledge and skills to promote the safety, dignity, and well-being of pupils, while preventing all forms of abuse, exploitation, and neglect in educational settings.
Facilitators guided participants through key safeguarding concepts, including child protection policies, reporting mechanisms, and the creation of safe, inclusive, and child-friendly learning environments. Through interactive sessions, group discussions, and real-life case scenarios, participants were empowered to identify risks, respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns, and uphold accountability standards within their schools.
As a TOT workshop, the training emphasized sustainability, with participants expected to cascade the knowledge and skills gained to fellow teachers, students and school staffs across Catholic schools in Kenema. The workshop concluded with a strong commitment from participants to integrate safeguarding principles into school systems and daily practices, ensuring that every child learns in a safe and protective environment.
