DEVELOPMENT OF OUR 2025-2028 STRATEGIC PLAN
We have successfully concluded yesterday the development of our Strategic Plan for 2025-2028. This process began with a comprehensive report from the evaluation of the 2021-2024 Strategic Plan on Monday. Attendees, including representatives from the regional and national boards (chair, gender, and youth) as well as staff, reviewed the outcomes and challenges of the previous plan. Gaps were identified, and their root causes analyzed, setting the foundation for the new strategy. The findings were validated collaboratively, creating a shared understanding of what needed to be addressed in the new plan.
From Tuesday to Thursday, we had focused on developing a robust strategic framework, informed by the gaps and strengths identified during the evaluation. The four pillars of the previous strategic plan were retained for the new Strategic Plan with potential for modification, reflecting our YMCA’s commitment to its mission and vision:
1. Institutional Capacity Development
2. Youth Empowerment and Transformation
3. Increase Financial Sustainability and Autonomy
4. Health and Environmental Awareness
We had the integration of challenges and opportunities affecting youth, women, children, and the Sierra Leone YMCA itself into the appropriate pillars respectively.
Assumptions such as the availability of resources, community support, and policy alignment etc were considered, while potential threats such as donor fatigue and economic instability(inflation affecting project budget), low internal revenue generation and dependency of branches, regions and national, accountability and weak leadership at branch and regional levels, weak data management system and many more were identified.
A Strategic Plan Drafting Committee of five man was established to draft the strategic plan ahead of the inconclusive review by all representatives followed by its validation, all happening in January, 2025.
The collaborative and participatory approach taken during the development process ensures ownership and alignment with the organization’s core values.
