We deeply appreciate and stand in solidarity with the landowning communities of Njala, Ngawauma, and Gombu Gaura Chiefdom, Kenema District, Eastern Province, Sierra Leone, in their call for justice and transparency regarding their land.

We support the communities’ demand for a fair review of the existing land agreement with OFIR Company Ltd. The concerns surrounding land reservation, ownership, benefits, and the terms of the agreement must be addressed transparently and accountably, with the full participation of the affected landowning communities.

Friends of the Earth Sierra Leone stands with the landowning communities. We call for transparency, accountability, justice, and respect for community land rights in all land-related matters in Gaura Chiefdom, Kenema District. The voices and rights of the communities must be respected and protected. President Bio Summons Emergency Parliament Sitting for August 20

President Julius Maada Bio has summoned an emergency sitting of Parliament for Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 10:00 AM, the Office of the Clerk of Parliament announced today. The session, to be held in the Chamber of Parliament, will focus on the approval of presidential nominees.

Citing Section 86(1) of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone, which empowers the President to convene Parliament at any time, the notice urges Honorable Members of Parliament to attend punctually.
