Do you know why pilgrims throw pebbles at the Jamarat during Hajj?

When Prophet Ibrahim عليه السلام set out to obey Allah’s command to slaughter his son, the Shaytaan appeared before him and tried to discourage him from carrying out that command. Ibrahim responded by throwing seven pebbles at him.

The Shaytaan appeared again, and Ibrahim threw pebbles at him once more. Then the Shaytaan appeared a third time, and Ibrahim again drove him away by pelting him with pebbles.

The lesson is that the Shaytaan does not give up. Every time he is repelled, he returns and tries again.

This is similar to what many people experience after a period of sincere worship. After Ramadan or the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah, a person may feel spiritually strong and motivated. Yet the Shaytaan seeks to pull them back toward old sins or make them neglect their good habits and acts of worship.

The message is simple, the struggle against temptation is ongoing. The Shaytaan does not give up on trying to mislead people, so believers should not give up on seeking Allah’s forgiveness, asking for His protection, and remaining steadfast in obedience and good deeds.

Don’t dwell on how privileged you are. It’s how you end the journey that matters. Strive to live a life that endears you to your Creator. Everything else is secondary. Keep asking for a good end. May Allah Almighty take us when He’s most pleased with us.
