Earlier this morning, i took a long walk up the hills of Tombo where i met a young boy at apparently around 7-8 years old. Preparing to make his pieces of clothes for the travelling of woods on his head for sale downtown Tombo.
I automatically pause, i makes sure he doesn’t realise i was watching him.
So when i approached him, he greets “Uncle Good morning, duya help mi d wood na mi ed”.
I felt tears deep inside my soul. Something i had wanted to do all my life as a young boy growing up. “To help the needy, helpless and less privileged children”.
So this was, yes, the task i’ve taken has truly started today through this young boy.
So i suddenly asked him, “Na u get d wud?, then he replied; “Yes uncle, na fr go sell”.
Well the conversation became interesting that very moment because the boy seemed very happy and was interacting well, so i still try to ginger him up nicely so he could tell me the truth about his studies.
So i asked him again, “Why u nor dae na skul, or u na afternoon shift u dae”, he replied “No uncle ah nor dey go skul ooo, mi papa dey on fr geda d kopor for put mi skul, from fos term tay now ar nr see ar go skul”😭
And i asked him “Bot if posin wa pay for u leh u begin go skul en go learn lek u kompin dem, u dey attend?” he replied “YES UNCLE” So i started getting goosebumps, because i’ve met someone who God has sincerely directed me to help.
Again, i asked him what was his name, and he said his name was ABU KANU.
Yes, i stand to be corrected by his response in accordance to his statement.
So i told him he shouldn’t bothered anymore to put on the wood on his head, and that, i’ll help him carry it on my shoulder to his home.
When we reached we saw bunches of woods on the ground but nobody was there.
So he told me he wasn’t really living there, his home is at the next neighborhood.
Then i told him i’ll pay him a surprise visit, so i can have a conversation about how best we can see to help him get to school officially.
And we will see him soon to get started, definitely.
This is why we are here, to help put smiles on children’s faces and stand for their rights and freedom.
ABU KANU was a very smart kid whose responses made my day. He cooperates well, and was even smiling when i was carrying the woods for him on my shoulders.
Ps: This is one of the children that has been truly suffering to be in school because of the fact that his parent/s can’t afford the necessary bills.
Let’s see how this Boy’s story unfolds.
SN: Videos will be shared soon.
