Thank you to everyone who joined us today for Insai Di Barray: The Independence Barray: Beyond Freedom.

Your presence, comments, and engagement helped make the conversation meaningful. Together, we reflected on what independence means beyond celebrations and why justice, citizen voice, accountability, and dignity must remain at the center of our national conversation.

At the tail end of the live session, we experienced a technical issue that caused the broadcast to cut abruptly. We apologise for the interruption.

We will share the remaining segment as short snippets in the coming week so everyone can continue following the conversation.

Thank you for staying Insai Di Barray with us.

[Translation: They freed a bird from the cage, but tied a rope to its foot. The bird could fly a little, but it could not go far. That’s how it knew that it was not truly free.]

When Sierra Leone gained independence 65 years ago, our cage was opened. But true independence goes beyond political freedom. It requires justice, accountability, rights protection, and economic & social equity.

Independence becomes meaningful only when justice allows every citizen to truly “fly.” Without it, freedom remains symbolic.

Independence marked the moment Sierra Leone became a sovereign nation. Yet history and experience show that freedom alone is not enough. True independence requires justice, accountability, and systems that serve the people.

Today is not merely a celebration of freedom. It is a reminder for us citizens to use that freedom to insist on and build the nation we want.

Happy Independence Day, fellow Sierra Leoneans.
