Rina's EmpowerHer Foundation

Rina's EmpowerHer Foundation Uplift. Educate. Transform.

12/04/2026

On June 28th, 2025, I walked into one of the largest slum communities in Sierra Leone Kroo Bay with one simple intention: to listen, to connect, and to remind a group of women that their stories are not over.

What followed was more than just an outreach.
It was a moment of truth. Through our one-day Mental Health and Recovery Outreach, “Breaking Chains,” we sat with women who have faced realities many of us can’t even begin to imagine drug use, survival on the margins, pain, stigma… and yet, still holding on.

We brought together voices that mattered individuals who have walked that same journey, facilitators with lived experiences, and representatives from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency. And for that moment, something shifted.

There were conversations.
There was honesty.
There was hope.
Not perfect, not complete but real.
Because the truth is, the issue of drug abuse and mental health is not distant. It’s here. It’s in our communities. And behind it are real people—women who deserve more than judgment… they deserve support, healing, and a second chance at life.

This video is just a glimpse of that day.
And this? This is just the beginning.
At Rina’s Empower Her Foundation, we are committed to going beyond one-day conversations. We are intentional about creating pathways for recovery, reintegration, and restoring dignity especially for women who have been overlooked for far too long.

So as you watch, I want you to think about this:
What role can you play?

Because change doesn’t happen in isolation. It takes all of us.

Let’s break the chains… together 🤍

Today is a special one for me 🤍
For a long time, I’ve carried this desire in my heart to give back, to make impact, to be part of something bigger than myself. Because for me, there’s a different kind of joy that comes from seeing people rise, heal, and find their strength again.

So today, I’m proud to officially introduce Rina’s Empower Her Foundation. This vision didn’t just start today. It was shaped through my experiences, especially during a fellowship where I worked on a project focused on young women in slum and marginalized communities women facing real struggles: poverty, substance abuse, mental health challenges, and limited opportunities. That experience stayed with me. It opened my eyes even more. And it pushed me to do something intentional, something structured, something that truly responds to these realities.

Rina’s Empower Her Foundation is built on that purpose to support, uplift, and create safe spaces for women and young girls to rebuild, grow, and take back control of their lives.
This is just the beginning. And I know I can’t do this alone.

I’m inviting you my people, my community to be part of this journey. Your support, in any form, will go a long way. With God on this, I’m hopeful for what’s ahead. Let’s empower her… together 🤍

And how could I possibly forget the heart of it all the women and girls who showed up, listened with open hearts, and courageously shared pieces of their lives with us? You came not just as attendees, but as warriors carrying stories that many would struggle to speak out loud. From stories of addiction to battles with self-worth, from quiet tears to bold declarations of “I want better” you showed up with truth, and that takes strength most people will never understand.

I watched as some of you hesitated to speak, then slowly found your voices. I saw the nods of quiet understanding, the moments of laughter through pain, and the kind of connection that can't be faked. You reminded all of us that healing isn’t loud sometimes it’s just in being present, listening, or whispering, “me too.”

To the girl who said she thought no one would understand we did. To the young woman who shared how she’s trying to start over we see you. And to each of you who trusted us with your stories thank you. You gave this project soul. You gave it meaning. And you reminded me why I do this in the first place.

This isn’t the end it’s the beginning of a new chapter, where your voice, your healing, and your growth will light the path for others.
We’re walking beside you. Always. 💛

For as long as I can remember, I’ve carried this fire in me, a quiet but persistent desire to one day create something of my own. Something rooted in love, purpose, and service a foundation that would speak for the voiceless, fight for the forgotten, and pour light into places that often get overlooked.

Starting EmpowerHer Foundation was never about titles or recognition it was about people. Women and girls who’ve been silenced, boys misunderstood, children hurting quietly. It was about creating safe spaces where they could feel seen, heard, and supported. Yesterday, in the heart of Kroo Bay, that vision became real.

I hosted Breaking Chains: A One Day Mental Health & Recovery Outreach, and what I witnessed moved me deeply. The stories were raw. The emotions, unfiltered. We laughed, we listened, we danced, and above all, we connected.

Tomorrow, we’re heading to the Kroobay community for a one-day mental health and recovery outreach and I’m really looking forward to it. I’m honored to have Alhaji Manika Kamara, President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists, join us as a special guest. His presence means a lot, especially as we shine a light on issues we often shy away from mental health, healing, and support. It’s going to be meaningful, honest, and needed. 💜

Today, as the world marks the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, I stand in solidarity with the countless young people across Sierra Leone whose lives have been deeply affected by synthetic drugs. Drug abuse continues to rise in our nation, leaving behind broken homes, shattered dreams, and in many tragic cases lost lives. It’s a crisis we can no longer ignore.

That’s why, through EmpowerHer Foundation, we are taking action. To commemorate this important day, we are organizing a community outreach program in one of Sierra Leone’s largest slum communities a space where the grip of drug addiction is felt most. Our focus is on women and girls, whose stories often go unheard, and whose struggles with substance abuse are often overlooked.

We believe in hope, in healing, and in the power of awareness and we are committed to doing the work, one community at a time. Together, let’s rise against drug abuse and give our young people especially our girls the support, tools, and empowerment.

Permit me to share some photos showing the substances being consumed by our youth in this country from Kush to Tramadol, to ma*****na.
These images reflect a growing crisis that demands our urgent attention and action.
