Domestic workers are the backbone of our community. They care for families, cook meals, and keep homes running smoothly. But do they get the respect and fairness they deserves?

Today, on International Women's Day, we celebrate all domestic workers. We fight for rights: fair pay, safe working conditions, and dignity. We demand justice: end exploitation and abuse. We take action by stand with domestic workers, amplifying our voices to create change.

When we value care, we gain a fairer society.

"

Sierra Leone Domestic Workers Union wishes all women Happy International Women's Day. We celebrate the achievement of all women, advocate for equal rights, equal opportunities and freedom from discrimination and abuse and other challenges women face.

International Migrant Day

Across borders and beyond homes, migrant domestic workers carry hope, responsibility, and strength. They care for children, support the elderly, and keep households running often far from their own families.

Their labor deserves visibility, protection, and respect. No worker should face exploitation, discrimination, or silence simply because they crossed a border to survive.

Today, we call for safe migration, decent work, and equal rights for migrant domestic workers everywhere.

✨ Respect their work.
✨ Protect their rights.
✨ Recognize their humanity.

October 29th is International Day of Care and Support.
Domestic Workers keep the world running. They make other work possible, they provide direct and indirect care, they care for children, elderly, including disabilities, cook, clean and handle other activities of the home. They make society function, allow other women to work outside of their homes, promotes the achievement of gender equality; yet too many still receive below minimum or living wages, face discrimination, exploitation, abuse, lack social protection and are invisible.

On this International Day of Care and Support, we say: domestic work is essential and therefore must be recognised as a real, skilled and vital labour.

We demand for Dignity and Equity in policies and laws. Domestic Workers care for you, so care for them.

World Day Against Trafficking in Persons 🛑
Domestic workers and child domestic workers often suffer in silence; behind closed doors, many are trafficked, exploited, and denied their basic human rights.
Children are forced into domestic labor,
women isolated, underpaid, and abused, no contracts, no protections, and no voice.
Human trafficking has no place in any home or any country.
It’s time to hold traffickers accountable and demand safe, legal, and dignified working conditions for ALL.

Today, we 📣 raise awareness and call for a report of abuse, and we demand justice.

I feel humbled and honored to receive an award in the first ever National Labour Awards 2025; a Gender Equality Excellence Award in recognition of my efforts towards Empowering and creating Employment for Women. I thank God for the idea and thanked everyone who has contributed spiritually, financially and technically. I also thank the Ministry of Employment Labour and Social Security and Sierra Leone Labour Congress. I sincerely thank my mother who not by choice was a domestic staff but that was where she could hike her livelihood to care for her family and her self. Domestic work is perceived as a demeaning source of livelihood but it has brought meaning to me. My team and I are working tirelessly for domestic work to be recognized, respected and dignified . I salute all domestic workers globally and nationally and thank every employer.

The Women's Committe of the Sierra Leone Labour Congress which the Sierra Leone Domestic Workers Union is part of, joined the world to commemorate the International Women's Day on the theme: All Women and Girls: Right, Equality and Empowerment in the World of Work.
Women's work should be recognized particularly for those in the informal economy and the workplace should be free from violence and harassment, so women can thrive and contribute meaningfully to the economy. To accelerate action for Gender Equality, women should be empowered and opportunities are to be provided. It is also a time to celebrate the government for the enactment of Laws and the Ratification of Conventions that promotes Gender Equality but we ask government to implement and domesticate these and also Ratify especially Convention190 (C190).
