On 6th August 2026, Tamaraneh Gender Development Organization (TGDO), in partnership with the Forum Against Harmful Practices (FAHP) and with support from Irish Aid, successfully convened a one-day Multi-Stakeholders Engagement Meeting to End Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM) at the Western Area Rural District Council Hall, Waterloo.
The engagement was held under the project titled; “Strengthening FAHP for the Coordination and Implementation of FGM Intervention in Sierra Leone (Influencing Zero Tolerance),” and brought together representatives from government institutions, local authorities, traditional and religious leaders, civil society organizations, health professionals, law enforcement agencies, youth groups, and other key stakeholders.
The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration to eliminate FGM through awareness raising, improved coordination, and enhanced understanding of the health, legal, and human rights implications of the practice.
Presentations covered the health consequences of FGM, survivor support and referral pathways, clinical management, survivor-centred care, legal and policy frameworks, prosecution of FGM-related cases, and the vital role of traditional and religious leaders in prevention efforts.
Participants actively contributed to discussions, shared experiences, and identified practical strategies to strengthen community action against FGM. The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from all stakeholders to advance the Influencing Zero Tolerance campaign and protect the rights, health, and dignity of women and girls across Sierra Leone through sustained advocacy, community engagement, and multi-sectoral collaboration.
The event ended with a vote of thanks and closing remarks, reaffirming the collective resolve to eliminate Female Ge***al Mutilation through sustained advocacy, community engagement, and multi-sectoral partnership.
