On Thursday February 27, 2025, the Commonwealth Alumni Association of Sierra Leone (CAASL) and its volunteers joined the British High Commission and its partners in a clean-up of the Aberdeen-Lumley Beach. The exercise is part of the activities organised by the Commission ahead of Commonwealth Day which will be celebrated on March 10.

Given the challenge of poor garbage disposal practices in the city and its attendant effects on the environment, the clean-up was used as an opportunity to clear piles of waste, especially plastics off the surface of the beach. The event also served as a way of raising awareness about the need to reduce plastic pollution and promote safe disposal of waste, thereby protecting the marine environment, wildlife, food chains and human health.

CAASL remains open to supporting initiatives that aim to address societal challenges.
