🗣️ Taking Governance Messages to the Community
Effective local governance is not the responsibility of government institutions alone. Citizens also have important roles and responsibilities in shaping the development of their communities.
As part of its community engagement activities in Kono District, the CARED Kono Field Office took awareness messages directly to community members at a local market on Strengthening Citizens' Roles and Responsibilities in Local Governance in Kono District.
The engagement provided an opportunity to interact directly with community members and discuss the importance of citizen participation, responsibility and constructive engagement in local development processes.
Taking these conversations into public spaces such as markets helps ensure that awareness does not remain within offices or meeting rooms. It reaches people where they live, work and conduct their daily activities.
For CARED, community development is stronger when citizens are informed, engaged and able to participate meaningfully in issues affecting their communities.
A responsible citizen is not only someone who expects development, but someone who understands their role in contributing to it.
