September 8 was International Literacy Day!

Despite progress, at least 739 million youth and adults worldwide still lack basic literacy skills in 2024. At the same time, 4 in 10 children are not reaching minimum proficiency in reading, and 272 million children and adolescents were out of school in 2023 (UNESCO source).

So we want to specifically applaud the efforts of Arimah Bangura and Arimah’s Reading club, a local initiative designed to support and nurture children’s reading skills, build their learning capacity, and improve their overall knowledge and academic development.

We endorse all of your work and look forward to collaborating in the future. 🤩🥳🥳🥳🥳

Thanks to our able First Lady Fatima Maada Bio, November 27th is now marked as International Day for the Elimination of Child, Early and Forced Marriage.

This marks a historic milestone in the global fight to protect girls from child marriage and safeguard their rights, dignity, education and future. The resolution was adopted by consensus on September 4, 2026, bringing all 193 UN Member States behind a unified call for stronger action to eliminate the practice.

Reacting to the adoption, Dr. Fatima Maada Bio said, “Today, the world has spoken with one voice: child, early, and forced marriage has no place in our societies.” She described the resolution as more than symbolic, calling it “a global mandate for action” and reaffirming the responsibility of leaders and advocates to ensure that every girl is free to dream, learn and thrive without being forced into marriage.

Kudos to you, our first lady! 🥳🥳🥳
