FREETOWN, SIERRA LEONE โ In a spectacular display of eloquence, empowerment, and advocacy, the Muslim Youth Development Organization (MYDO) successfully hosted the grand finale of the 3rd edition of the Public Speaking for Muslimah on Sunday, 17th May, 2026, at the packed FSSG Hall.
The flagship event has firmly established itself as a premier platform for amplifying the voices of young Muslim women, equipping them with the vital tools of leadership, media ethics, and advocacy.
In his opening remarks, Ansumana Keita, the Director of Public Speaking for Muslimah, emphasised the core mission of the initiative. He described the platform as a safe and transformative empowerment space, designed to give Muslim women and girls the confidence to lead.
A major highlight of the event was a deeply engaging and thought-provoking panel discussion centred on the theme: "Hijab & Discrimination."
Moderated by Sis Memunatu Suma (a seasoned communicator, journalist, and UNDP Sierra Leone representative), the panel brought together distinguished voices to discuss the systemic and daily challenges faced by Hijabees, while offering actionable solutions. The stellar panel includes:

The Public Speaking Competition started with thirteen (13) remarkable finalists taking to the stage, each given exactly 5 minutes to passionately deliver their speeches surrounding the central theme.
After an intense round of high-calibre presentations, the judges crowned the 2026 champions:

The atmosphere erupted into pure joy and celebration following the crowning of the winners. Thus, all 13 participants were certified and gifted with a Hijab as a sign of appreciation for their active participation in the competition.
Attendees were treated to an amazing, soulful performance by the Modest 3 of Halal Sound, capping off an evening of inspiration and unity.
