Today, on the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM), I, together with the community at Girlz Empowered, want to reaffirm a message that has stayed with me: laws alone don’t end harmful practices — people do. Real change happens when communities are supported to shift beliefs, have honest conversations, and protect girls together.

For years, Girlz Empowered has been committed to that grassroots work — creating safe spaces for girls to learn, ask questions without fear, and make informed decisions about their health, rights, and future.

Ending FGM means investing in girls, listening to communities, and building trust — one conversation at a time. ✊🏾🇸🇱

the Project : Strengthening youth advocacy in acceleating the elimination of Female Ge***al Mutilation. This project is an initiative of YouthHubAfrica (YHA) , African Youth Commission and, in support of UNFPA and UNICEF joint programme on the elimination of Female Ge***al Mutilation

GE-SL currently serves as the Lead Partner in Sierra Leone, implementing the national level activities as part of the 'Strengthening youth advocate in acceleating the elimination of FGM' project.

We are thrilled to have the Minister of Youth Affairs- Hon. Mohamed Orman Bangura,  Minister of Social Welfare- Bindu Gassama serving the role of keynote speakers and will address young people on the issue of FGM/C. We are also deeply honoured and proud to have the Executive Director of YouthHubAfrica- Rotimi Olawale as our Honorable Guest, visiting Sierra Leone and also being part of this historic event, organised by the Youth for the Youth!

The purpose of this intervention is to strengthen the partnership between YouthHubAfrica and youth movements in 8 African Countries that are championing advocacy activities that are geared towards some of the social issues that are affecting women and girls in Africa. Girlz Empowered Sierra Leone currently serves as the Lead Partner in Sierra Leone, implementing the national level activities as part of the 'Strengthening youth advocate in acceleating the elimination of FGM' project.
