Amazonian Initiative Movement (AIM) is an independent women rights organization whose main focus is to reduce the incidence of female ge***al cutting (FGC).

FGM survivors who are fighting to end the practice are not influenced by the West nor funding as supporters propagate.

The ordeal majority of those women have suffered during and after the procedure is unspeakable.

Women suffer in the labor room, increase cesarean operations, high rate of infant mortality, sexual challenges, an increase of HIV amongst women, and an increase in fistula cases.

If you are lucky not to experience any of these, it does not make the practice perfect.

Fight for the many women and girls who are ashamed to come forward.

I am a proud bondo woman who fights to STOP the cut to protect BONDO.

Amazonian Initiative Movement (AIM) Sierra Leone, held a Training workshop with the law enforcement authority (Sierra Leone police) on Saturday 20/01/24.

The Training, to the participants was like someone seeing a diamond for the first time. According to the participants, even though they have been handling matters of controversies between families that has to do with FGM that some times leads to deaths occurrences.

"But what we have learnt and seen on the documentary has given us a fresh sense of how we should investigate subsequent matters that may have to do with FGM going forward".

The training ended with questions and answers, followed by suggestions by the participants on what we as an organisation must do to ensure the sensitization reaches the last mile for everyone's awareness.

The FGM fight is indeed a hard nut to crack, but with these steps taken ( engagements with stakeholders) in recent times will yield some successes to the fight against FGM.

Out of ignorance our parents and relatives have supported violence in the name of culture. AIM has Abel able to separate bondo from FGM in a way of promoting culture and protect the human rights and dignity of girls through the bloodless rite of passage. 50 young women have gone through the rite of passage without inflicting pain neither attack to their womanhood. This is call to every one promoting women’s rights. Gender equality, women in leadership, education for all to show love to women and girls by joining the end FGM within our bondo culture . It’s a sense of belonging and build a life long relationship with peers not a promotion of violence . Thanks to AIM staff, sowies that took up the challenge and the community for making it a reality
