Hawa Sally Samai participates in Global Power Women Forum London 2026

Sierra Leone’s Executive Secretary of the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion, Madam Hawa Sally Samai, has participated in the Global Power Women Forum London 2026, an international convening of senior women leaders, policymakers, investors, and development partners from more than 40 countries.

The Forum, held across London and Cambridge, brought together influential voices from government, business, academia, and civil society under the theme of advancing women’s leadership in governance, investment, and sustainable development. It served as an invitation-only platform designed to strengthen global collaboration and translate high-level dialogue into practical policy and development outcomes.

Global Power Women Forum London 2026 focused on expanding women’s participation in decision-making processes, economic leadership, and institutional reform, with a strong emphasis on inclusive growth and sustainable development.

During the discussions, Madam Samai contributed perspectives on peace building, governance, and the role of women in strengthening national cohesion. She underscored that sustainable peace extends beyond the absence of conflict, describing it as a system built on trust, justice, and functional institutions that enable societies to recover, grow, and attract investment.

Drawing from Sierra Leone’s post-conflict experience, she highlighted how the country’s civil war disrupted trade networks, weakened institutions, and eroded social trust. She noted that ongoing peace building efforts remain central to restoring stability, rebuilding economic confidence, and supporting long-term national development.

Madam Samai also emphasized the importance of women’s leadership in peace and development processes, stating that women’s participation in mediation, community engagement, and governance structures has proven critical in strengthening social cohesion and reducing vulnerability to conflict. She further noted that empowering women is not only a matter of inclusion but a strategic driver of economic and institutional resilience.

The Forum provided a platform for engagement with global stakeholders committed to advancing gender equality, strengthening leadership pathways for women, and promoting partnerships that support socio-economic transformation across regions.

Her participation reflects Sierra Leone’s continued engagement in global conversations on peace building, governance, and inclusive development, while also reinforcing the country’s visibility in international policy dialogue.

Madam Samai’s intervention also aligns with broader national efforts to position peace as a foundation for economic development and social progress, particularly in post-conflict settings where institutional trust and cohesion remain essential.

Her engagement at the Forum further strengthens her growing international profile as a peace building practitioner and advocate for inclusive governance, and underscores Sierra Leone’s ongoing contribution to global discussions on women, peace, and sustainable development.

Peace Commission engages bike riders in Kenema to strengthen community peace monitoring network

On 8 June 2026, the Eastern Regional Coordinator of the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC), Luke Kakpa Pessima, led a regional team on a courtesy visit to the Bike Riders Union (BRU) Office in Kenema and the St. Charles Bike Riders Ground, a major gathering point for commercial bike riders in the city. The engagement forms part of the Commission's ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration with key community stakeholders, enhance community engagement, and revitalize the Peace Monitoring Network across the Eastern Region.
During the visit, the ICPNC team met with the Chairman of the Bike Riders Union, Kelly Mansaray, alongside the executive.

The team also engaged riders at the St. Charles Bike Riders Ground, where many gather daily before commencing their work across Kenema and surrounding communities. Addressing the gathering, Regional Coordinator Luke Kakpa Pessima highlighted the purpose of the visit and underscored the importance of strengthening partnerships with grassroots actors in peacebuilding efforts.

He noted that bike riders play a critical role in community life, as they are often among the first to observe disputes, political tensions, and other developments that may escalate into conflict. Their daily movement across wards, communities, chiefdoms, and villages places them in a strategic position to contribute meaningfully to the Peace Monitoring Network and support early warning and conflict prevention efforts.
“Bike riders are an important part of the community fabric. Their continuous interaction with people and movement across different areas make them valuable partners in identifying early signs of tension and supporting timely intervention,” Mr. Pessima stated.
He further reaffirmed ICPNC’s commitment to building strong partnerships with community stakeholders to promote peace, social cohesion, and stability across the Eastern Region and Sierra Leone as a whole. In response, the leadership of the Bike Riders Union and members of the St. Charles Bike Riders Ground expressed appreciation for the visit and welcomed the Commission’s engagement.
They assured the ICPNC team of their full support to peacebuilding initiatives and pledged to actively disseminate peace messages, encourage dialogue, and promote peaceful coexistence within their communities and operational areas.
The visit underscores ICPNC’s continued efforts to strengthen grassroots peace structures and expand community-based early warning and conflict prevention mechanisms across Sierra Leone.

ICPNC JOINS CIVIC DAY LONDON EDITION

The Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion is heading to London!

Our Executive Secretary, Hawa Sally Samai, will represent ICPNC at the Civic Day Series UK Edition on 18th June 2026 at Westminster Chapel.

She joins VP Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh and Ministers of Health, Trade, Finance and Lands for direct dialogue with Sierra Leoneans in the UK.

Why this matters for ICPNC:
