Hawa Sally Samai participates in Global Power Women Forum London 2026
Sierra Leone’s Executive Secretary of the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion, Madam Hawa Sally Samai, has participated in the Global Power Women Forum London 2026, an international convening of senior women leaders, policymakers, investors, and development partners from more than 40 countries.
The Forum, held across London and Cambridge, brought together influential voices from government, business, academia, and civil society under the theme of advancing women’s leadership in governance, investment, and sustainable development. It served as an invitation-only platform designed to strengthen global collaboration and translate high-level dialogue into practical policy and development outcomes.
Global Power Women Forum London 2026 focused on expanding women’s participation in decision-making processes, economic leadership, and institutional reform, with a strong emphasis on inclusive growth and sustainable development.
During the discussions, Madam Samai contributed perspectives on peace building, governance, and the role of women in strengthening national cohesion. She underscored that sustainable peace extends beyond the absence of conflict, describing it as a system built on trust, justice, and functional institutions that enable societies to recover, grow, and attract investment.
Drawing from Sierra Leone’s post-conflict experience, she highlighted how the country’s civil war disrupted trade networks, weakened institutions, and eroded social trust. She noted that ongoing peace building efforts remain central to restoring stability, rebuilding economic confidence, and supporting long-term national development.
Madam Samai also emphasized the importance of women’s leadership in peace and development processes, stating that women’s participation in mediation, community engagement, and governance structures has proven critical in strengthening social cohesion and reducing vulnerability to conflict. She further noted that empowering women is not only a matter of inclusion but a strategic driver of economic and institutional resilience.
The Forum provided a platform for engagement with global stakeholders committed to advancing gender equality, strengthening leadership pathways for women, and promoting partnerships that support socio-economic transformation across regions.
Her participation reflects Sierra Leone’s continued engagement in global conversations on peace building, governance, and inclusive development, while also reinforcing the country’s visibility in international policy dialogue.
Madam Samai’s intervention also aligns with broader national efforts to position peace as a foundation for economic development and social progress, particularly in post-conflict settings where institutional trust and cohesion remain essential.
Her engagement at the Forum further strengthens her growing international profile as a peace building practitioner and advocate for inclusive governance, and underscores Sierra Leone’s ongoing contribution to global discussions on women, peace, and sustainable development.
