In partnership with and with funding from , Sierra Leone continues to make significant strides in enhancing women’s protection and inclusion in peacebuilding processes in Sierra Leone.

On Wednesday 19th August 2026, MARWOPNET Sierra Leone engaged Border Security Personnel in Kambia District to disseminate key findings from the research on Reporting Mechanisms for the Protection of Cross-Border Women Traders from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA).

The engagement is aimed at strengthening awareness, and institutional responses to protect cross-border women traders and promote safer, more inclusive border communities.

In partnership with the UN WOMEN and with funds from Irish Aid, the Mano River Women Peace Network (MARWOPNET) organised a two day training for 20 of its Peace Ambassadors from four border districts Kailahun, Kambia, Karene and Pujehun, on the 6th and 7th of August, 2026, at the Leilema guest house in Pujehun town. The training enhanced the capacity of MARWOPNET Peace Ambassadors, mostly women, on the UNSCR 1325 and its related National Action Plan, the Sierra Leone National Action Plan (SiLNAP III). The two day training increased the knowledge and skills of the Peace Ambassadors on rolling out of the UNSCR 1325 and SiLNAP III and skills in tracking its implementation in their respective districts chiefdoms and communities. Talking to some of the Peace Ambassadors, including Marian Kumba Nyorkor, District Coordinator and Peace Ambassador from Kailahun, they acknowledged to have understood the UNSCR 1325 and SiLNAP, especially its four key strategic pillars: prevention, participation, protection, and relief and recovery. They affirmed that the training had adequately prepared them to be more effective in performing their roles and responsibilities as Peace Ambassadors. The participants expressed their sincere gratitude to the facilitator for the professionalism displayed during the training, MARWOPNET and its partner, the UN WOMEN, and Irish Aid for its support.
