MY TWO CENTS ON THE CURRENT KUSH CRISIS IN SIERRA LEONE.
To effectively tackle the current Kush crisis, we need to apply the following approaches
1. For Law Enforcement & Judiciary: Target the "Cooks" and Distributors: Investigations must move beyond low-level users and target the criminal networks producing and distributing Kush. Reports suggest these networks are well-organized, with chemicals imported from China and Europe, often via online platforms.
2. Investigate High-Level Complicity: As highlighted in media reports, there must be a transparent investigation into allegations that individuals with political or business ties are protecting the Kush trade. Combating this impunity is essential to breaking the supply chain.
3. For Communities & Families: Support Community-Led Initiatives: In the absence of sufficient government services, communities are already establishing informal shelters and support networks. These efforts should be recognized, trained, and financially supported to provide immediate, localized care.
4. Engage in Public Vigilance: Communities can play a role in identifying and reporting local drug "cartels" or production sites to authorities, while also offering support and reintegration pathways for those seeking to quit.
Please note that ending the Kush epidemic in Sierra Leone requires acknowledging that the drug is both a symptom and a cause of deeper socio-economic problems.
A lasting solution depends on a unified national response that combines immediate healthcare with long-term investment in Sierra Leone's people and economy.
