My Journey, My Promise"
My name is Vamba Kanneh. I was born on September 14, in a small town called Mogbwemo, in Imperi Chiefdom, Bonthe District. I started my education at Kankaylay Islamic Primary School. Life has never been easy for me. For over 24 years, I’ve faced challenges—poverty, hardship, and tough choices. But through it all, I’ve never allowed my background to determine my future.
I was born poor, yes—but I’ve never blamed my parents. They gave me life and did their best. The rest, I promised, would be my responsibility. I made a vow to myself, and to my daughter, she will not grow up in poverty like I did. That promise pushes me to work hard every day and night, even when I’m tired, even when things seem impossible.
Now that I’m in university, the journey hasn’t gotten easier. Sometimes I go to class hungry, sometimes I walk long distances just to attend lectures. But I remind myself: this is only a season. It won’t last forever.
To my fellow students, I say this: be patient. Don’t give up because things are hard right now. Everyone’s time will come. Focus on your dreams, and keep pushing. Struggle doesn’t mean failure—it means you’re still climbing. Let’s be strong, together. Our story is not over yet.
