AECS-SL Participates in National Youth Engagement Session 🇸🇱

A few days ago, some executives of Agricultural Education Climate Solution – Sierra Leone (AECS-SL) participated in a one-day national youth engagement session organized by the National Youth Commission (NAYCOM) in collaboration with the National Youth Sector Caucus.

The forum was held under the theme:
“Advancing Advocacy and Leveraging Expertise for Youth Empowerment in Sierra Leone.”

The engagement brought together youth-led organizations and youth-serving agencies across the country to strengthen coordination, enhance policy influence, and promote collective action for national youth development.

During the session, NAYCOM presented its Strategic Plan and Annual Work Plan, highlighting key pillars focused on inclusive implementation and structured collaboration with youth actors and development partners.

Key speakers, including Joseph Maada Lahai, Dr. Eric Massallay, Musa Khalil Koroma, Abigail Stevens, and Patrick M. Gibrilla emphasized:
✔️ Stronger collaboration among youth actors
✔️ Transparency and credibility in youth-led initiatives
✔️ Sustainable financing and coordination
✔️ Recognition of youth as key development partners

As AECS-SL, our participation reflects our commitment to youth empowerment, climate action, and sustainable development. The session provided a valuable platform to connect, learn, and contribute to national discussions shaping the future of young people in Sierra Leone.

We remain dedicated to working with partners, stakeholders and fellow youth organizations to translate these engagements into meaningful action at the community level.

Trees are powerful defenders in the fight against climate change. They cool our cities, clean the air we breathe, and provide habitats for countless species. By absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen, trees play a vital role in protecting both our environment and our health.

One of the most effective ways we can harness the power of trees is through reforestation—the process of replanting trees in areas that have been deforested or degraded. Reforestation is a leading Nature-Based Solution that helps restore the environment, promote biodiversity, and improve human well-being.

It offers many benefits: it prevents soil erosion, supports clean water systems, regulates the climate, and even creates economic opportunities through jobs and eco-tourism.

However, for reforestation to be successful, we must plant native trees, engage local communities, protect existing forests, and ensure that newly planted trees are properly cared for.

Let us all take action—by planting trees, raising awareness, and working together—to restore our environment and build a healthier, more sustainable future.
