How has travelling across the EU changed from one generation to the next? 🌍🇪🇺

For many young EU citizens today, crossing borders, studying abroad, moving to another European country or discovering new cultures can feel almost natural. But for previous generations, these opportunities were often far more limited.

In the second video of our “Traveling Across Generations” series, two of our members (Jan Gondek from EDYN Czech Republic and Anna Kirakosjanova from EDYN Czech Republic) compare the possibilities young EU citizens have today with the experiences of their parents and grandparents.

From greater freedom of movement and easier access to international opportunities to the chance to live, learn and build connections across borders, their stories remind us that the EU grants us an ability to travel that we should take for granted.

Who actually decides what in the EU? 🇪🇺

A lot of people hear “Brussels” and imagine one distant place making all the decisions. But the EU actually works through a shared system.👇

The Commission proposes new laws. The Parliament, elected by citizens, debates and votes. The Council brings in the governments of EU countries. And most laws are adopted only when these institutions agree. 🤝

Why does this matter? Because the decisions they make can affect travel, study, work, privacy, digital rights, consumer protection and many other parts of everyday life. And for young people, who are the stakeholders of tomorrow, these issues are all the more salient.

This is exactly why understanding how the EU works matters — not as a theory lesson, but as something connected to real life.

Why should young people care about the EU? 🇪🇺

For many of us, the EU is not just something happening in Brussels. It is something that opens doors, creates opportunities, and shapes the way we live, learn, travel and connect across Europe.

In the third video of our “EU and Me” series, EDYN member Jakub Kocjan (EDYN Poland) share what the EU means to him and why it matters in his everyday life.

From Erasmus+, youth exchanges and non-formal learning to cross-border mobility, volunteering, and opportunities to grow personally and professionally, the EU gives young people space to explore, connect and make a difference.

Why should young people care about the EU? 🇪🇺

For many of us, the EU isn't just about politics in Brussels. It's about opportunities that shape our everyday lives.

In the first video of our "EU and Me" series, EDYN members Aron Horvath (EDYN Hungary) and Aurel Surovy (EDYN Slovakia) share why the EU matters to them and why it should matter to all of us.

From Erasmus+ , youth exchanges, and non-formal education to cross-border mobility, volunteering, and job opportunities, the EU opens doors for young people across Europe. It also supports local environmental initiatives, climate action, and community projects that create real change where we live.

Say "the EU" and most people picture Brussels: grey buildings, people in suits, decisions made far away. 🇪🇺

But the EU isn't one city or one room of officials. It's 27 countries and around 449 million people, spread right across the map — Strasbourg, Luxembourg, Frankfurt, and every town and village in between. That includes you.

And it's not just institutions. The EU is already in your everyday life: the semester abroad, cheaper roaming, cleaner beaches, the rules that protect your data online. 🌍📱

So the EU isn't something that happens to you from somewhere far away. It's a shared project you're already part of — and one you can help shape. Swipe through to see what we mean 👉

This is the first in our "What is the EU?" series — follow along as we break down how it actually works, and what it means for you.

AI doesn't create democratic problems. It amplifies them.

As AI reshapes the information landscape, protecting democracy requires more than technological solutions. It requires trust, resilient institutions, and informed citizens.

At EDYN and the GDC’s Europe Forum 2026, experts from across Europe explored how we can strengthen electoral integrity and democratic resilience in the age of AI.

🌍 EDYN at Youth Innovating Democracy 2026

What should European democracy look like in 2049? 🇪🇺

From 24 to 26 June, our President Yuliia Dziuba represented EDYN at Youth Innovating Democracy in Strasbourg, joining 120 young leaders from across Europe to help shape the Manifesto for a European Democracy in 2049.

🤝 Together, participants exchanged ideas, shared experiences and explored how to build a more inclusive, participatory and resilient democracy for future generations.

💙 At EDYN, we believe young people are not just part of the conversation. They are helping shape the future of democracy. We are proud to see our network contributing to this important European dialogue.
