On 5 September, our Star PALS families gathered at Oasis@Outram for Star PALS Remembrance Day – an afternoon remembering and celebrating the precious lives of their beloved children.

Families created personalised tote bags featuring photos of their loved ones, listened to a heartfelt sharing by Chian Hong’s father, Benz, and penned letters to other bereaved families – creating space to remember and reflect, while offering words of comfort and hope to those who may walk a similar journey.

Thank you to every family for allowing us to journey alongside you, and to the volunteers from both HCA and Howden, whose help made the afternoon possible.

As a Vigil Angel and Day Hospice volunteer, Janet brings comfort, dignity and joy to our patients and their families. Her dedication to volunteering has seen her recognised as a finalist for the Singapore Silent Heroes Award.

Not every goodbye at HCA Hospice is a farewell.

While some of our patients eventually come to the end of their journey with us, there are also patients who “graduate” from our care when hospice services are no longer required.

One such patient is Gotha, who was supported by both our Home Hospice and Day Hospice teams. After journeying alongside her, we were delighted to celebrate a very special milestone: her graduation from HCA Hospice. 🎓

We organised a small graduation ceremony for Gotha at Oasis@Outram Day Hospice, bringing together some of our staff who had cared for and walked alongside her, as well as fellow patients at Oasis.

Hospice care is not only about journeying alongside someone at the end of life. It is also about 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐃𝐚𝐲𝐬, celebrating milestones like this and cheering patients on as they begin a new chapter. This afternoon, filled with smiles, familiar faces and warmth, was a joyful reminder of that.

Some days are made for holding onto. On 29 August, close to 20 of our patients and their families joined us for our annual Family Foto Fair, a special day where families could come together and have professional studio portraits taken, creating beautiful memories to treasure.

A heartfelt thank you to PSA Singapore for sponsoring the venue at PSA Horizons, as well as the snacks and drinks for the third consecutive year, and for helping make this meaningful day possible. We’re also incredibly grateful to all our lovely volunteers from both HCA and PSA who create good days — from befriending our patients and families, to helping with hair and make-up, and making everyone feel comfortable in front of the camera.

A big thank you to all the wonderful volunteer photographers who generously gave their time and talent to capture these precious moments for our families, including our friends from Camera Kakis.

"This was never about me." For Mr Rizal Salim, it was about thanking the people who had journeyed alongside him.

Recently, Rizal, who has been receiving care from HCA Hospice, gathered with family, friends and former colleagues for a heartfelt farewell gathering filled with music, laughter and cherished memories.

"Every one of you inspires me to try and live longer. I push myself because I live by the memories I've shared with people. If our paths have crossed, I appreciate you."

At HCA Hospice, means bringing compassionate care home, giving patients more quality time with the people they love.
