At 99, Mdm Lim Joke Buay is still up for a new challenge. 🏅

“I was amazed that just by using the controller, I could make the drone fly. It was something completely new to me,” shared Mdm Lim. She is one of 290 seniors from seven MWS Active Ageing Centres who came together for our inaugural Senior Olympics Day, enjoying friendly competition at various station games, including adaptive sports and drone soccer. Seniors also explored AI and scams through a new gamified digital initiative by Infocomm Media Development Authority. 🤖

The event kicked off with MWS CEO Albert Ching welcoming the participants. We were also honoured to have Mr Ng Chee Meng, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Adviser to Jalan Kayu Grassroots Organisations, join us and take part in the activities with our seniors. Minister Ng noted, “This inaugural Senior Olympics Day is a very meaningful initiative – it promotes active ageing through activities, as well as fosters friendship and connections among seniors from different parts of Singapore. As our population ages, social connections and activities enable our seniors to stay active, build friendships and enjoy community life.”

The event also marked the launch of HARMONY, MWS’ new active ageing framework, which takes a holistic approach to ageing well by bringing together health and wellness, active engagement, cognitive health, meaningful social connection, community outreach and independence. In his speech, Eugene Toh, Chairperson of MWS Board of Governance, highlighted that our goal is not simply for seniors to enjoy activities, but to provide a more holistic experience through signature programmes such as Ling Ling Time and Men-Only Happy Hour, which promote well-being, foster connections and encourage volunteerism.

We are glad that everyone had a wonderful time. Here’s to ageing with confidence, purpose and plenty of new experiences! 🌟 For more on the HARMONY model or what went down at our Senior Olympics Day, read our press release mws.sg/senior-olympics-2026-press-release

Today, as we commemorate the International Day of Older Persons (IDOP), we celebrate the seniors who continue to enrich our families, communities and society.

This IDOP, we are shining a spotlight on Men Maintaining Muscle (MMM), a programme started by Paul, a staff member at MWS Active Ageing Centre – Golden Lily @ Pasir Ris. What began as an exercise group has grown into something more. Along the way, the men have found friendship, encouragement and a sense of community in one another. Watch the reel to hear from Paul about how MMM came about and how the group has grown beyond just keeping fit to building meaningful connections.

Singapore has become a super-aged society, and as our population ages, many seniors face challenges such as social isolation and loneliness. Creating opportunities for connection and participation is an important part of ageing well.

At MWS, we support over 15,000 seniors through our seven Active Ageing Centres, creating spaces where seniors can stay active, build friendships and remain connected to their communities.

Beyond IDOP, we will continue creating inclusive platforms for seniors to participate, connect and contribute, while championing their continued role in our communities. 💙

When dementia changes everyday life, what helps a family keep moving forward?

That’s the question Mr Wong’s family had to wrestle with after he was diagnosed with dementia. Repeated questions, emotional outbursts and declining mobility made daily life increasingly difficult, especially for his wife, who took on the role of his primary caregiver. For about a year and a half, she attended to his needs throughout the day, often putting her own rest and well-being aside. Like many caregivers, she carried responsibilities that were physically and emotionally demanding.

A turning point in their journey came in September 2024, when Mr Wong began active rehabilitation at MWS Senior Care Centre – Eunos. Swipe to read more about their journey and how their family found a renewed sense of peace along the way.

This September, as we commemorate World Alzheimer’s Day, let us recognise the needs of people living with dementia and honour the caregivers whose efforts often go unseen. With timely rehabilitation, compassionate dementia care and support for caregivers, positive change can extend beyond the individual, strengthening the well-being and resilience of the whole family. 💙

Behind the clutter was a senior struggling alone.

After a hospital stay, Mr Lim Kim Yam, 85, could not return to his own home as it was overflowing with clutter and no longer safe. An MWS staff member rallied a team of volunteers to clear out the clutter and make it liveable again.

Support seniors like Mr Lim by donating at give.mws.sg/growing-through-adversity-mrlim or share this video. Every donation will be matched dollar for dollar by the Community Silver Trust.

On a Monday afternoon, Wendy Foong steps into a flat in Hougang, where two teenage brothers, Aiden (not his real name), 15, and his 14-year-old sibling, are just waking from an afternoon nap.
Wendy begins tidying up, picking up an empty can and an instant noodle wrapper. Soon, Aiden joins her, folding clothes and washing dishes. “Don’t leave the tap running – you’ll waste water,” she reminds him.

It is the sort of exchange one might expect between a parent and child. But Wendy is not their mother.

As a volunteer befriender with MWS Covenant Family Service Centre (CFSC), the 52-year-old has spent the past year journeying alongside these two brothers and their 18-year-old sister. With their father in prison and their mother, a stroke survivor, in long-term residential care, the siblings had been navigating life without proper adult supervision.

Yishun is a happening place, and there’s always something bringing the community together! 💙

At our recent Family Wellness Day, organised by MWS Family Service Centre – Yishun in partnership with over 15 agencies, friends and families came together for a lively day of meaningful activities, live performances and shared learning.

We were honoured to have Lee Hui Ying 李蕙莹 , Adviser to Nee Soon GRC Grassroots Organisations, as our Guest of Honour and a panellist in the discussion on strengthening family well-being.

For senior resident Seryn Tan, the event offered valuable assurance. “People like me want to age well, so it was very helpful to learn more about the support available for us.” Through the community booths and panel discussion, families and individuals like Seryn discovered practical ways to care for one another and find support at different stages of life.

A huge shoutout to our 15 community partners and dedicated volunteers, who came alongside us to share resources, knowledge and support with the community. 🤝 We look forward to more of such collaborations and creating more meaningful platforms for families and the wider community. 💙️

What a truly memorable day at the 38th MWS Fellowship On The Greens 2026! From the energy of the golf tournament to the warmth of the post-game dinner, it was deeply moving to see more than 200 golfers, donors, partners and friends come together as one community in support of MWS eldercare services — including our Nursing Homes, Active Ageing Centres, Senior Care Centre, and Home Care & Home Hospice.

Through this generous collective effort by the grace of God, we met the target of $500,000 to sustain and strengthen our existing service points for seniors, while also supporting our upcoming Active Ageing Centre and Senior Care Centre in Serangoon, which will open in 2027.

We are especially grateful to Lew Foundation for their generous pledge of an additional $100,000 at the dinner— a timely contribution that helped us reach our fundraising target and will make a meaningful difference in the lives of the seniors we serve. To everyone who joined us on and off the greens, thank you for standing with MWS and with the seniors who depend on these services. Your support brings more than resources — it brings care, warmth, and the restoration of dignity to those who need them most.

Our teachers are no strangers to rating! But how will they rate these situations? 🤔

From the never-ending “67” jokes to students calling them “Cher” — watch the reel and find out what our teachers actually think! 😂

Beyond what we see, there are countless things teachers consider, moments they navigate, and ways they go the extra mile that often go unseen.

This Teachers’ Day, we celebrate the educators who bring patience, resilience, and heart to their work every day. Thank you for the countless ways you make a difference in the lives of your students.

To all teachers: thank you for your unwavering commitment and the care you give so generously. Your efforts are appreciated more than words can say. You are 100/10 everyday! 💙
