🍽️ Support Local: Marie’s Lapis Cafe 🍰

We would like to share a heartfelt recommendation for Marie’s Lapis Cafe, a hidden gem located in Bedok North Street 3. The café is founded by 84-year-old “Marie” and her son Chris, who is also a St Gabriel’s School’s alumnus.

What started as a home-based kueh lapis business has grown into a cosy café serving authentic Peranakan-inspired dishes, including signature items such as Mee Siam, Buah Keluak Spaghetti, Nasi Campur, Ngoh Hiang, and traditional kueh lapis waffles.

We would also like to specially acknowledge that the café was very generous in sponsoring vouchers for our recent Montfortian Education Symposium (MES) attendees, supporting our community in a meaningful and thoughtful way. We are truly grateful for their kindness and partnership.

In support of our SGF community, staff who do not have the voucher may still enjoy the discount by presenting the SGF Associate Card, or by showing proof of employment at any of our MGEI schools and social service agency.

The café is built on a simple but heartfelt mission—to make every guest feel at home through warm hospitality and honest, lovingly prepared food. Despite having no GST or service charge, it is well known for its exceptional service and family-run warmth.

🙏 As part of our SGF community support, we encourage staff and guests to make use of the Marie Lapis’ voucher to support Chris and the café as a gesture of appreciation for their story, generosity, and dedication.

🌿 DAY 3 – POST 9 ( Closing)

Closing | Sending Forth | Gratitude

After the outreach experience, students gathered to reflect on what they had seen, felt, and learned.

Many shared insights about empathy, gratitude, and the dignity of every person encountered in service.

This reflection allowed students to integrate the four movements of Montfortian leadership:
• Self-Awareness
• Humility
• Courage
• Service

We are grateful to our teachers, parent volunteers, facilitators, and staff who guided these reflections with care and helped students make meaning of their experiences.

As MAR-YIA Camp 2026 came to a close, students gathered one final time in gratitude, reflection, and quiet celebration.
The journey of three days has been one of growth — from self-discovery, to trust, to courage, and ultimately to service.

Students now return to their schools carrying not just memories, but a deeper understanding of what it means to lead as servants in their communities.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this camp possible — especially our teachers, parent volunteers, facilitators, and staff, whose time, patience, and generosity made a lasting impact.

Your presence has shaped hearts.

“Go forth and lead — not from above others, but alongside them.”

🌿 DAY 3 – POST 8

Service Reflection | Integration | Gratitude

Students participated in a “Day in the Life of a Food Court Staff” experience at Koufu, where they stepped into real service roles such as table clearing, cleaning, tray return, sweeping the floor, basic maintenance, and customer interaction.

They also experienced taking public transport and real-world movement as part of understanding daily labour and community service.

This hands-on experience allowed students to reflect deeply on dignity of work, empathy, and gratitude for those who serve quietly in society.

We are grateful to our teachers, parent volunteers, and facilitators who guided the students throughout this meaningful outreach experience.

“Leadership is shaped when we learn to value every role in society.”

🌿 DAY 3 – POST 7 (Before Lunch)

Service Above Self – Part 1

The final day began with purpose as students entered into Service Above Self, stepping out of the camp environment to serve in the wider community.

They were invited to experience humility in action — serving, observing, and appreciating the everyday work of others, especially food court staff and members of the public.

This moment brought the camp theme full circle:
Service (Care for Others) is not theory but lived experience.
We thank our teachers, parent volunteers, and facilitators who ensured smooth coordination and supported students as they stepped into unfamiliar but meaningful spaces of service.

“To lead is to serve; to serve is to see others with new eyes.”

🌿 DAY 2 – POST 6 (Dinner to Lights Out)

Presentation Night | Celebration | Joy

Day 2 ended in celebration with the much-anticipated Presentation Night, where students showcased their flags, cheers, skits, and Montfortian stories.

The hall came alive with energy, laughter, and pride as teams expressed what they had learned about servant leadership — not through words alone, but through action and performance.

It was a beautiful reminder that leadership is also joy, creativity, and shared community.

We extend heartfelt thanks to our teachers, parent volunteers, facilitators, and staff who supported behind the scenes and stood with students throughout their preparations and performances.

Your encouragement helped bring confidence and joy to the stage.

“When we serve together, we also celebrate together.”

🌿 DAY 2 – POST 4 (Before Lunch)

Forest Adventure | Courage in Action

Day 2 began with energy and anticipation as students prepared for Forest Adventure, an outdoor experience designed to stretch courage, resilience, and teamwork.

Through rope courses and physical challenges, students were invited to step beyond comfort zones and discover strength in collaboration and trust.

This experience reflected the camp theme Courage (Trust God) — reminding students that growth often comes when we choose to move forward despite fear.

The morning was filled with encouragement, teamwork, laughter, and moments of personal breakthrough.

We thank our teachers, parent volunteers, facilitators, and support staff for accompanying the students, cheering them on, and ensuring their safety throughout the activity.

Your encouragement helped transform challenge into confidence.
“Courage is not the absence of fear, but the decision to trust God through it.”

🌿 DAY 1 – POST 3 (Dinner to Lights Out)

Night Walk | Reflection | Leadership Talk

Brother Dominic then gave a lively and engaging talk on the different types of leaders, using relatable examples and humour, including questions such as whether we are “chicken or duck leaders.” The students enjoyed the interactive session filled with movement, laughter, and reflection.

Students then participated in the Night Walk – In the Footsteps of Montfort, experiencing moments of silence, reflection, and storytelling that brought the Montfortian journey to life in a deeply personal way.

As night fell, students reflected on what it means to lead with humility, courage, and service — and to trust that God walks with them even in uncertainty.

The day ended with wash-up, sharing, and quiet preparation for rest, as participants carried the lessons of the day into stillness.
We sincerely thank our teachers, parent volunteers, facilitators, and supporting staff who stayed throughout the long day and evening, ensuring care, safety, and encouragement for every student.

Your quiet service reflects the very heart of this camp.

“Even in the quiet of night, God continues to form hearts that are willing to serve.”

🌿 DAY 1 – POST 2 (Lunch to Dinner)

Trust | Communication | Montfortian Values | Eucharist
The afternoon of Day 1 deepened the journey as students moved from self-awareness into trust, communication, and community building.

Through the Trust Circle activity, participants were invited to confront fears, learn to rely on one another, and reflect on what it means to trust God even when the path feels uncertain.

This was followed by the Tea Time Talk, where students explored how communication shapes leadership. They learned that true understanding begins not with speaking, but with listening — and that assumptions must give way to empathy and clarity.

As the day unfolded, students also engaged in the Montfortian Values & Practices session, experiencing:
• Telling Our Stories (Self-Awareness)
• Prayer of the Heart (Humility)
• Built to Bounce Back (Courage)
• Spirit of Welcome (Service)

Each activity invited reflection on how servant leadership is lived, not just learned.

The campers then gathered for the Eucharistic Celebration, grounding the day in prayer and gratitude.

We are especially grateful to our teachers, parent volunteers, facilitators, and school staff who guided, encouraged, and supported the students with patience and care throughout the day.
Your presence made a difference.

“Trust grows when we choose courage over fear and understanding over assumption.”

🌿 DAY 2 – POST 5 (Lunch to Dinner)

Preparation | Creativity | Presentation Night

The afternoon of Day 2 was dedicated to preparation, creativity, and teamwork as students worked on their Presentation Night segments.

Each group selected a story from St. Louis Marie de Montfort and transformed it into flags, cheers, and performances, expressing their understanding of servant leadership through creativity and collaboration.

This session highlighted:
• Leadership through participation
• Respect for diverse ideas
• Courage to express oneself
• Unity in team identity

We are deeply thankful to our teachers, parent volunteers, and facilitators who guided students patiently, allowing them to take ownership while gently supporting their growth.

Your presence helped shape confidence and creativity.
“Leadership grows when young hearts are given space to create, express, and belong.”

🌿 DAY 1 – POST 1 (Before Lunch)

Morning Arrival | Orientation | Self-Awareness Begins

The Montfortian Adventure Retreat for Youth-In-Action (MAR-YIA) 2026 began on the morning of 2nd June 2026 at Assumption Pathway School (i-Stay), bringing together students from Montfort Junior School and St. Gabriel’s Primary School.

Rooted in the theme “God Calls Me: I Lead, I Serve…”, the camp opened with a gentle invitation for our young leaders to pause, arrive, and become aware of who they are before God, themselves, and others.

Through welcome briefings, orientation, and group formation, participants were introduced to the heart of the journey:
Self-Awareness (Know Me) — recognising that leadership begins within.

In the spirit of St. Louis Marie de Montfort, students were reminded that true leadership is not about position, but about becoming a servant to others, with heart and humility.

We extend our deepest appreciation to our teachers, parent volunteers, facilitators, and staff who generously set aside their time to journey with the students and ensure a safe and meaningful start.

This camp would not be possible without your quiet dedication behind the scenes.

“God calls me to know myself, so I can better serve others.”
