[Volunteer opportunity]
A simple idea during a November 2025 island recce turned into something real. Raleighians Halil and Tai Tng, together with three new volunteers, travelled to Benan Island (Indonesia) to deliver refurbished laptops and support teachers in building IT literacy.

💻 A small step, opening up bigger opportunities for learning.

With 19-year-old Erika rallying two friends on IG, the team came together naturally. On the ground, we worked with teachers to set up and test the laptops, learning and troubleshooting together along the way.

This effort was powered by many. From Johann refurbishing the laptops to volunteers stepping forward, it was a shared commitment to do something meaningful.

🔜 This is just the beginning. More initiatives are already in the works to further support the community.

𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲!

Isabelle Kirkwood, our Let's Take A Walk 2025 Volunteer Manager, is going on a 10-week expedition to South Africa with Raleigh International in February.

There, she will be helping to build infrastructure in a collaboration with local NGO Nourish, supporting education, wellbeing and environmental sustainability, and doing conservation work with the Cape Vulture Nature Reserve.

Raleigh Singapore is proud to support Isabelle's expedition with funding support, matching the amount she has raised. Isabelle has raised about half of the funds for the expedition via her own hard work.

The adventure challenge part of the expedition sees her going on a 19-day trek to the Blyde River Canyon, and she has trained hard for it with friends on hikes and trails in Singapore. Upon her return, she will be sharing her experience at this year's AGM on 𝗦𝗮𝘁, 𝟮𝟯 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 – save the date!

𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀:

💌 Isabelle joined LTAW 2025 as a Volunteer Manager and was instrumental in recruiting volunteers and keeping them well-informed about their roles and duties.

👂🏻 She heard about Raleigh International expeditions from her stepdad Ed Wharam, a venturer (2000A/Chile). He also volunteered for LTAW 2025 as checkpoint crew.

⚽ She plays football for the SCC Pumas (Singapore Cricket Club) as a Junior Sports Member.

🙋🏻‍♂️ As an intern of X-Trekkers and new to Raleigh Singapore, Ning got the rare experience to plan and assist in executing OTD 2025, which continues from the previous OTD held in 2001:

"The focus this time was on immersive cultural exchange and fostering parent-child bonds through play. It was certainly an eye-opening experience for staff and participants alike, as we got the rare opportunity to live with local Tibetan families.

"More importantly, our participants had the opportunity to break free from the normal restraints of city life and get back in touch with the simplest joys of human connection. Do look forward to OTD 2026, where we will be visiting another part of Tibet."
