EDIS Cares

EDIS Cares CSR arm of Economic Development Innovations Singapore (www.edis.sg). We develop, fund and co-run programmes for underprivileged children in Singapore.

WHO ARE WE? EDIS Cares is the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of Economic Development Innovations Singapore (EDIS). Our mission is to create opportunities for underprivileged children in Singapore to reach their full potential. OUR HISTORY
EDIS started its CSR effort, EDIS Cares, in Aug 2013 in response to Chairman EDIS, Philip Yeo’s desire to enable underprivileged children in mainstrea

m schools to have opportunities to see and have a different future. As Mr Philip Yeo has said, Singapore’s only real resource is the talent “that walk on two legs”. The children in Singapore are our future “two-legged talent”. However, many fail to reach their full potential because of circumstances beyond their control – family income levels, loss of a parent, learning challenges, etc. By working through partners who know the ground, we developed and launched structured, needs-based programmes targeted at specific age groups in 2014:

1) A Milk & Diapers programme to provide the critical nutrition and care needed for optimal development by infants and toddlers from families that struggle to afford such basics.

2) The Early Learning Programme is a literacy and numeracy intervention programme for 6 and 7 year olds. Trained volunteers deliver an in-house dyslexia and dyscalculia-based curriculum on a maximum 1 volunteer : 2 children ratio every Saturday.

3) The iShine Programme which aims to expose upper Primary School children to an extensive range of learning experiences through thematic sessions which run on alternate Saturdays. Volunteer adult befrienders journey with the children through-out the year, keeping an eye out for hidden talents and newly sparked interests.
