As part of the Zero Waste Masterplan review, segregated recycling is being looked into as a systemic change and a potential shift in how we recycle as a nation.

So, what could this mean? And could it help improve Singapore's domestic recycling rate?

🎉 Zero Waste SG turns 11! 🎂

On 13 July 2015, Zero Waste SG officially became a registered non-profit organisation (NPO). What started as a website in 2008 sharing tips on waste minimisation has since grown into a recognised NPO and Institution of a Public Character (IPC), leading the zero waste mission in Singapore through advocacy and education.

To everyone who has walked this journey with us, THANK YOU! 💚

Every campaign, every engagement programme, every community outreach and conversation has helped move Singapore one step closer to a circular and zero waste future.

These past 7 months in 2026 have been exciting. From launching the Zero Waste Academy, expanding Zero Waste Explorers, and growing our Save Food, Cut Waste and Sort It Out campaigns to engaging thousands through education, partnerships, and community action, we've made significant strides together. 🌱✨

As we celebrate our 11th birthday, we're more energised than ever for what's ahead, and we’re working harder to create an even greater impact .. there's still so much more to be done!

Celebrating International Domestic Workers' Day Zero-Waste style! 💚

We threw a Tea Party that showed how fashion and beauty can be both sustainable and stylish, through upcycled self-care workshops, pre-loved clothing, handmade upcycled jewellery, and a whole lot of creativity.

A huge thank you to HOME: Humanitarian Organisation for Migration Economics, Cloop and Ecoline for being amazing event partners, and the BlackRock Singapore volunteers for not only creating upcycled earrings as a gift for the domestic workers, but also making it such a fun and meaningful evening. 🙌

NEA's recent release of the 2025 recycling data on 17 June shows two things worth paying attention to:

(1) We're generating less waste: daily domestic waste per person has fallen to 0.83kg, a remarkable 21% reduction since 2015.

(2) Domestic recycling rate remains stuck at 11%, while the non-domestic rate edged up to 67%, leaving the overall recycling rate largely unchanged, and hovering at below 60% since 2020.

So why the gap?

In this issue of Zero Waste Commentate, we dive into the challenges behind Singapore's stagnant domestic recycling rate and explore how we can move beyond recycling to build a truly circular economy.

Because becoming a Zero Waste Nation isn't just about collecting more recyclables. It's about reducing what we create, rethinking consumption and resources, and adapting existing systems.

💚 There's more work to be done, but together, we can turn the tide.

Last weekend, youth showed up for the planet. 🌍💚

We were at the Youth4Climate Festival organised by CDL Sustainability, and honestly? The energy was inspiring.
