Celebrating 20 years of the Narpani Pearavai Tamil Toastmasters Club!

It was a meaningful celebration of language, culture, confidence and community as we marked this special milestone together with the Singapore Tamil Toastmasters Club.

The programme featured a lively debate on whether culture or education plays a greater role in preserving a language, as well as impromptu speeches by our Narpani Youth members.

We were honoured to be joined by our Guest of Honour, Dr Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, and Adviser to PA Narpani Pearavai; together with our Special Guests, Mr Vikram Nair, MP for Sembawang GRC and Adviser to Sembawang GRC Grassroots Organisations (Admiralty), and Dr Hamid Razak, MP for West Coast-Jurong West GRC and Adviser to West Coast-Jurong West GRC Grassroots Organisations.

For two decades, the Narpani Pearavai Tamil Toastmasters Club has provided a nurturing platform for individuals to develop their public-speaking and leadership skills while keeping the Tamil language vibrant and relevant.

A meaningful evening of conversation and reflection at the Narpani Pearavai Post-National Day Rally Dialogue with our IAEC grassroots leaders and community partners.

The Dialogue was moderated by one of our council members Mr Saravanan, PBM and attended by our panellists, Dr Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, and Adviser to Narpani Pearavai, and co-chaired by Mr Murali Pillai, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Law and Ministry of Transport, and Adviser to Narpani Pearavai.

The session provided a valuable platform to exchange perspectives on the key announcements from the National Day Rally, hear views from the ground, and discuss how we can continue to better support our residents and strengthen our community together.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the thoughtful and engaging discussion.

We are pleased to see our Narpani Pearavai Vice-Chairman, Mr Rajesh Misir, featured in the inaugural episode of tabla! talks.

The first episode brought together community voices for a post-National Day Rally 2026 conversation, exploring issues close to Singaporeans — from support for families and the realities faced by the “sandwiched” generation, to integration and strengthening our social fabric.

Rajesh shared his perspectives both as a father and as a grassroots leader involved in youth development and leadership, contributing to an important conversation on how we can continue building an inclusive and cohesive Singapore.

Congratulations to tabla! on the launch of this new platform for conversations on issues and perspectives that matter to our Indian community.

tabla! talks is a monthly podcast, aiming to showcase the Indian community's reactions, reflections and ruminations to current affairs.
