Reimagining social work, together 💬
Recently, at the Social Work Academia-Practice Symposium (SWAPS) 2026, SHINE had the opportunity to share how meaningful and sustainable impact is not built in silos, but through connection, reflection, and innovation.
From strengthening socio-emotional development early in primary school through our SYNC (School Social Work for Children & Youths) programme, to redefining supervision as a shared and supportive community practice, and embracing digital transformation with a human-centred lens through our Scribe implementation, we also explored how early learning experiences are shaped beyond the classroom. Through a mixed-methods study, we examined how socioeconomic status influences children’s access to learning opportunities at home and in enrichment settings, highlighting the opportunity gaps that emerge from a young age. Across these perspectives, one theme stood clear: real change happens when people, practice, and systems come together with purpose.
As we continue to grow as a sector, we believe in building capabilities not just individually, but collectively, empowering practitioners, uplifting one another, and staying adaptable in an ever-evolving landscape.
Thank you to Allkin and SUSS School of Social Work and Social Development (SWSD) for bringing us together. We are grateful to be part of a community that is committed to shaping a more responsive and sustainable future for those we serve.
