Bali’s plastic waste crisis is no longer just an ocean problem.

With overwhelmed waste systems, polluted waterways, illegal dumping, and trash burning becoming increasingly common, communities across the island are facing the reality of a growing environmental emergency.

Most ocean plastic doesn't start in the ocean.
It moves through rivers first.

The Chao Phraya River is one of many waterways carrying large volumes of plastic waste toward the sea every single day, especially during periods of heavy rainfall, urban runoff, and unmanaged waste leakage.
What we captured here is only a snapshot of a much larger systemic issue. This is exactly why upstream intervention matters.

Our HIPPO is designed to intercept plastic before it reaches the ocean, making recovery more efficient, preventing further environmental damage, and creating opportunities for local waste management and recovery systems to strengthen over time!

The HIPPO is designed to work with the natural movement of the water, helping concentrate and intercept floating plastic before it escapes downstream.

Our crews are on the ground every day, assisting the HIPPO at recovering the accumulated waste before the tides carry it away again. What you’re seeing here can build up in just days.
