Grief can feel like a lonely journey — but you don’t have to walk it alone.

The Empowering Grief Support Group, jointly organised by HCA Hospice and Viriya Community Services, provides a safe and supportive space for individuals navigating bereavement and grief. Here, participants can share their story, find ways to adapt to life after loss, and maintain their bond with their loved one.

Open to individuals aged 21 and above, who are at least six months into their grieving journey.

What does it take to support someone in their final moments? For Tay Jia Sen, it’s about being present. As a Senior Medical Social Worker at HCA Hospice, Jia Sen provides the essential care and compassion needed to help patients and families navigate life’s most difficult transitions.

From a chance encounter as a Social Work Assistant to pursuing his Master’s in Social Work with support from the Community Care Manpower Development Awards (CCMDA) and HCA, Jia Sen’s journey shows how continuous learning, empathy and a strong sense of purpose can Create Good Days for patients and loved ones.

“Sometimes, the simplest acts can bring comfort and meaning in ways we may never fully see, yet deeply feel,” he shares.

This Social Work Day, we celebrate Jia Sen and all social workers, who bring heart and healing to homes.

For more than 30 years, HCA volunteer Lean Ee’s home kitchen has served our hospice patients with love and care.

When HCA Hospice Care first began 35 years ago as a volunteer-led organisation, it was the dedication of people like her that helped sustain the mission. Today, HCA cares for more than 4,800 patients each year — a journey made possible by many quiet acts of compassion along the way.

This International Women’s Day, we honour Lean Ee’s quiet strength, unwavering commitment, and the many lives she has nourished along the way.

Her dedication reflects the compassion and generosity that women bring to families, communities and causes they believe in.

Here’s to women who make a meaningful difference. Thank you for helping us .

Since Apr 2025, 5,796 donors have come together to raise $5.16m for HCA, bringing comfort, dignity, and care to patients and families, all at no charge.

As a season of reunion and gratitude, the Lunar New Year was the perfect time for us to gather at HCA Oasis@Outram Day Hospice and thank some of our most dedicated friends who have journeyed alongside us. It was a meaningful evening of reconnecting with familiar faces, touring our day hospice, and seeing firsthand how their kindness supports our unique services like compassionate discharge and bereavement care.

To everyone who joined us and to all our donors, thank you for being part of the HCA family. Your support continues to help us in even in the final chapter of life.

This Valentine’s Day, we celebrate a love that goes beyond romance — a love for humanity.

For Nurse Nancy, caring for patients at the end of life has been her calling. From returning to school at 53 to pursue nursing, to journeying alongside patients and families through some of life’s most vulnerable moments, her compassion has never wavered. Even today, she continues to serve with the same dedication, stepping in wherever needed and finding purpose in every interaction.

By her side is her husband, Derek, who has volunteered with HCA as a photographer for the past two decades. Together, they embody a shared commitment to giving back.

Love takes many forms and for Nancy and Derek, it is expressed through compassion, presence, and service. Thank you both for showing what it means to 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐃𝐚𝐲𝐬 for those who need it most.

When informed of his limited prognosis, our patient Mr Lye shared a simple wish — to gather his loved ones, cherishing the relationships he holds close to his heart.

To mark his 70th birthday, HCA helped organise a meaningful gathering filled with love, music, and togetherness. From a mahjong-themed cake to a karaoke session, it became an afternoon filled with smiles, laughter, and heartfelt conversations.
