🚨 SAFETY REMINDER TO OUR CONTAINER LOGISTICS TRANSPORTATION COMMUNITY!🚨

Following recent workplace fatalities, we are reminded once again that vehicle safety must never be taken for granted.

CDAS strongly encourages companies across the container depot, haulage, logistics and transportation sectors to conduct a Voluntary Safety Time-Out with your drivers, supervisors and operations teams.

🛑 Take a pause. Talk about safety. Reinforce the basics.

In particular, please remind all drivers of this critical practice:
🔴 ENGAGE THE HANDBRAKE BEFORE DISembarking from the vehicle.
🚛 WHERE APPROPRIATE, USE WHEEL CHOCKS TO PREVENT UNINTENDED VEHICLE MOVEMENT.

This is a simple action, but one that can help prevent unintended vehicle movement and protect our drivers, workers and everyone working around vehicles.

🦺 WE ENCOURAGE COMPANIES TO TAKE A VOLUNTARY SAFETY TIME-OUT

Use this opportunity to:
• Brief drivers and workers on vehicle immobilisation practices
• Reinforce the use of handbrakes and wheel chocks
• Review your current workplace and depot vehicle safety procedures
• Remind supervisors to actively reinforce safe practices
• Encourage workers to speak up when they observe unsafe conditions

A Safety Time-Out does not need to be long. What matters is taking the time to pause, reflect and make sure everyone goes home safely.

CDAS urges all companies to take this opportunity to Stop. Secure. Check. Then Step Out.

The recent workplace fatalities in the Construction and Transportation & Storage industries are a grave reminder that workplace safety and health (WSH) cannot be taken for granted.

To reinforce WSH, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) is calling on companies in both industries to conduct a voluntary Safety Time-Out (STO) from 5 to 18 October 2026.

Companies are encouraged to review their WSH procedures, strengthen risk controls, and address safety gaps, with particular focus on the safe use of concrete pumps and vehicle rollaway prevention measures, including ensuring handbrakes are engaged before drivers leave their vehicles and using wheel chocks where appropriate.

In addition to the voluntary STO, MOM will implement enhanced enforcement measures in both industries from 5 October to 4 November 2026, to strengthen deterrence and accountability:

● Increasing the composition fine quantum for offences from $2,000 to $3,000 for first-time offences, with higher composition fines for repeat or more serious offences
● Increasing the minimum duration of Stop-Work Orders (SWOs) from five weeks to eight weeks
● Debarring companies from hiring new migrant workers for three months in egregious cases

Employers should use this opportunity to engage workers and supervisors on workplace risks and reinforce safe work practices at all levels.

By working together to strengthen safety practices, we can create safer and healthier workplaces for all.

This National Day, let us take pride in how far we have come, and look ahead with confidence to where we can go together.

🇸🇬 Honouring Those Who Keep Singapore Safe!

CDAS was privileged to support and participate in the SAF Day Combined Rededication Ceremony 2026 (Zone 3), organised by the 新加坡中华总商会 SCCCI.

We thank Coordinating Minister for Public Services & Minister for Defence, Mr Chan Chun Sing, for officiating the ceremony and presenting the Certificate of Appreciation to CDAS President Mr. Ricky Loo, and extend our appreciation to SCCCI for bringing together the business community to reaffirm our shared commitment to Singapore's defence and resilience.

The ceremony was a meaningful reminder that Singapore's peace, security and prosperity are built on the unwavering commitment of our National Servicemen, SAF personnel, and the collective support of employers who enable them to fulfil their National Service responsibilities.

As a Trade Association representing the container depot, logistics, transportation and haulage sectors, we recognise that national resilience is a shared responsibility. Just as our industry plays a vital role in keeping Singapore's supply chains moving, we are equally committed to supporting our NSmen as they answer the call to serve our nation.

Together, let us continue to support our National Servicemen, strengthen Total Defence, and contribute towards a safe, secure and prosperous Singapore.
