Day in the Life of Our Fostering Care Staff

This post is dedicated to my Fostering Care staff here at Boys’ Town. Thank you for the support and always willing to lend a helping hand when your hands are already full.

Most of all, truly blessed and honour to work alongside such a committed team with big hearts to do the work that you all do, day in and day out. This work cannot be done without each and every one of you.

Thank you 😊

Centre Manager, Boys’ Town Fostering Services

As a Foster Parent Recruitment Officer, I organise outreach efforts to raise awareness about fostering and support prospective foster parents through the application process. While I may not be a foster care worker, I have had the privilege of journeying alongside many foster families and hearing their stories over the years.

I am grateful to every foster parent who has shared their experiences so generously. Through conversations, interviews, and events, they have spoken openly about their motivations, challenges, joys, and sometimes even their tears. Their stories help others better understand what fostering truly means and encourage more families to consider whether they can play a part in supporting children in need.

I have also been fortunate to spend time with foster children at various activities. Some of my fondest memories are seeing them laugh freely, make new friends or excitedly share stories about school and life. In those moments, they are simply children being children. If I hadn't known their backgrounds, I would never have imagined that they are part of the system.

Getting to know foster families has shown me that fostering is not only about providing a safe home. It is about creating space for children to experience belonging, stability, and joy. It is found in the everyday moments: around the dinner table, in the celebration of small achievements, and even in the not-so-quiet moments.

To me, fostering means showing up for a child and family when they need support most, always with the child's best interests at heart.

We're always grateful when our foster parents take time out of their busy schedules to support our fostering awareness talks and share their experiences.

If you've ever considered opening your heart and home to a child in need, come speak with our foster parents at our next sharing session on 19 July.

Their stories may be the encouragement you need to take the first step.

"Why care for someone else's child instead of having your own?"

For Tiffany and Desmond, the answer is simple. If they have the capacity and the privilege of a home filled with stability and love, why limit that to just one child? To them, it's simply one more bowl on the table.

Join them as they share their fostering journey at our next info-sharing session on 19 July, 2-4pm at Bishan CC!
