3 days to go, and spaces at StoryMakers Film Talks are filling up.

This Saturday: one afternoon, two award-winning filmmakers. Giselle Lin and Linh Duong on how stories get found, shaped, and made with time to ask them your own questions.

It's free, open to all, and there's no commitment to compete afterwards.

If you've been on the fence, or know someone who has, this is the last easy moment to act.

Every filmmaker starts somewhere. For StoryMakers alumni Zoe and Zachary, it began with personal experiences that stayed with them long enough to become stories worth telling.

In this Alumni Spotlight, they share what they learned through filmmaking, how those experiences shaped them, and what they would say to future StoryMakers participants.

If you know someone who curious about storytelling but not sure where to begin, ask them to join the StoryMakers Film Talks and explore how filmmakers use observation, empathy, and care to create meaningful stories.

Filmmaking can feel daunting. These two talks are here to make it feel less so.

In partnership with Objectifs - Centre for Photography and Film — Singapore's dedicated non-profit arts centre for photography and film — MHFFS is hosting two free Film Talks on 20 June as part of StoryMakers 2026, open to anyone thinking about making a short film, regardless of experience.

Led by Giselle Lin (Children’s Day, 2025) and Linh Duong (Don't Cry, Butterfly, 2024), the sessions explore the human side of filmmaking — how to look, listen, and tell stories with care.

What if someone in your life made a short film about something they've been struggling to say?

We are excited to announce that StoryMakers (the evolution of MHFFS’ Short Film Youth Competition) is now open for 2026! At the heart of the Mental Health Film Festival Singapore (MHFFS), StoryMakers empowers young Singaporeans to move from being "subjects" of their experiences to "storytellers" of their lives.

This year’s theme, Transitions: Growing Through Change, invites you to explore the messy, beautiful, and honest reality of life’s shifts.

Why Join?
No experience needed: We value honesty
Free Workshops: Join us on 20 June at Film Talks to hone your craft.
Awards Night: See your work screened on 12 November!

Brought to you in collaboration with Objectifs - Centre for Photography and Film

We invite schools, institutions, and mental health advocates to share this opportunity. Let’s build a generation of confident, connected, and purpose-driven storytellers together.

“From the show, we actually saved a life.
If it was only for that one person, it was worth it.”

This is the kind of impact that Gateway Arts is able to achieve, with youth-oriented productions and accompanying programmes.

Congratulations to Gateway Arts – Winner of “Best Project” in the Inspiring Asia Regional Film Festival 2025.

They will be going on to represent Singapore in the Regional Finals of the Inspiring Asia Film Festival 2025! Amazing work.

Through theatre, Gateway Arts holds space for young people to feel, share, and navigate what’s hard. Their immersive productions, including Third Man Syndrome and 12 Going on 13, open hearts, spark difficult conversations, and remind us and participants that no one is ever truly alone.

Our judges were deeply moved by Gateway Arts’ combination of powerful storytelling and tangible real-world impact

Thank you to our Project judges for reviewing not only all the project films but also the meaningful work being done on the ground.

And congratulations once again to Gateway Arts for showing how creativity and compassion can save lives.

We’re proud to announce the winner of our Audience Choice Award in the Mental Health Film Festival Singapore 2025: "For Paul, My Baby" by Christine Seow.

The film shares Alicia’s story of losing her eldest son to su***de in 2021. Through immense grief and self-blame, she sought help and found strength in her community. Her journey of healing now inspires others who may be facing similar struggles, reminding us of the importance of support and compassion.

Congratulations to the team for bringing this deeply moving story to life.
