Lasting Conversations: The Roles We All Play was always meant to be more than a gathering in a room. It is an ongoing conversation about care: what it asks of us, what it costs us, and how we carry its ethical weight together.

When HCA Hospice first initiated this dialogue, we asked how we might speak about care, faith, and the end we all share. This time, we returned, not to seek answers, but to sit more honestly with the roles we carry: caregiver, daughter, witness, stranger. Roles we step into quietly. Roles we learn as we go.

We’re deeply grateful to HCA Hospice for walking this journey with us and for believing that end-of-life care begins long before the final chapter, and that conversations held early, gently, and together can change how we care. Thank you to our speakers, artists, and community who stayed with the complexity, the discomfort, and the tenderness.

These are not one-off conversations.
They are lasting ones, and we carry them forward together.

Lasting Conversations: The Roles We All Play

How do we speak of love, obligation, pain, and parting, especially when words fail us? In caregiving and in end of life care, we are often cast into roles we never auditioned for: daughter, caregiver, patient, stranger, witness. Some we grow into. Some we resist.

What does it mean to perform care versus feel care? What happens when personal history, cultural expectation, and family duty collide in the final stages of life? And how can the arts offer not just reflection, but relief for those navigating these blurred, deeply human roles?
