One of the biggest mistakes new writers make is overstaying a scene.

Once the emotional truth lands…
Once the decision is made…
Once the audience understands what must happen next…

Get out.

Great scenes often end a beat earlier than expected. They trust the audience to connect the dots instead of explaining everything to death. Leave the viewer leaning forward — not checking the runtime.

What characters say is rarely the whole story.

The most compelling scenes are often driven by what remains unsaid — the fear behind the joke, the love beneath the argument, the insecurity hidden inside confidence.

Subtext is where tension, emotion and truth live.

As writers, don’t just write dialogue.
Write what the scene is truly about.

We’re proud to share a special event jointly organised by Weiyu Films, Mediacorp and NLB.

Aunty Lee’s Deadly Delights: From Page to Screen! features author Ovidia Yu and showrunner Lee Thean-jeen (TJ), moderated by Vernetta Lopez.

It’s also a special project for many of our SAS members who were part of the writing team behind the adaptation.

Join the conversation as the creators share how the beloved mystery novels were adapted into a Mediacorp drama series — from development and writing to production and performance.

📅 17 May 2026 (Sunday)
🕑 2PM – 3PM
📍 Visitors’ Briefing Room, Level 1, National Library Building

⚠️ Registration is required and spaces are limited to just 40 participants.
