About ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ ๐ฏ๐จ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ, mainly from HMโ€™s institutional partners and supporters, including PIL, Crediit Agricole, Soka, AMP, T Project and Armenian Church, packed over 1.4tonnes of specially selected relief supplies, comprising 5,000 collapsible jerry cans, 3,000 inflatable pillows and 500 lightweight winter blankets.

๐‚๐จ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐š๐ฉ๐ฌ๐ข๐›๐ฅ๐ž ๐ฃ๐ž๐ซ๐ซ๐ฒ ๐œ๐š๐ง๐ฌ facilitates safer and easier collection, carrying and storage of clean water, while their compactness allow for easier delivery to remote communities.

๐ˆ๐ง๐Ÿ๐ฅ๐š๐ญ๐š๐›๐ฅ๐ž ๐ฉ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฐ๐ฌ provide daily comfort and support. Compact, hygienic and moisture-resistant, hence easy maintenance, and are inflatable without oral contact.

๐‹๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ๐ฐ๐ž๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ ๐ฐ๐ข๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ซ ๐›๐ฅ๐š๐ง๐ค๐ž๐ญ๐ฌ provide warmth (8 - 15 degC), comfort and dignity, as the Himalayan winter approaches. Attached with zippers, they can convert into sleeping bags. Washable and rapid-drying. Their lightness allow for wrap-and-walk around.

These simple essentials strive to bring comfort, hygiene and dignity to the affected and displaced Nepalis living under difficult circumstances.

๐‘บ๐’–๐’, 27 ๐‘บ๐’†๐’‘ โ€” Over a hundred volunteers and supporters from nine Asian and European countries, participated in HMโ€™s Street Collection fundraiser for Nepal.

The participants sacrificed their Sunday rest and recreation, took to the streets, and weathered the 5-hour thunderstorm โ€” carrying donation cans, and distributing โ€˜๐Ž๐ง๐ž ๐๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง, ๐Ž๐ง๐ž ๐‡๐ฎ๐ฆ๐š๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ฒโ€™ stickers, collectively raising $15,000.

HMโ€™s Nepal fundraising (14 Sep - 31 Oct) strives to raise $๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ,๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ to support its rehab initiatives including shelter for orphans, hydration and beddings for the displaced and stranded.

Humanity Matters response team returned from Nepal on 7 September after a 10-day deployment, since Day 03 of the avalanche-floods tragedy, to support the Nepali National Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Agency (NDRRMA) during the acute emergency phase.

Under NDRRMAโ€™s direction, HM facilitated hydration for affectees, and health safety for frontline responders at worst-hit areas of Nuwakot and Rasuwa.

The scenes at Grounds Zero were heart-wrenching.

HM is currently regrouping and readying to extend further aid to support the reliefโ€”rehab transition for the affectees, especially before the next Himalayan winter in December.

๐‘๐‘ข๐‘ค๐‘Ž๐‘˜๐‘œ๐‘ก, 5 ๐‘†๐‘’๐‘ โ€” On the application of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), and under the direction of the Nepali NDRRMA, HM response deployment was tasked to help ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ๐จ๐ซ๐ž ๐๐š๐ข๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐ค๐ข๐ง๐  water supply to 100-plus frontline security personnel and around 1,000 inmates at the Nuwakot Central Prison.

The ๐ฆ๐š๐ฑ๐ข๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฆ-๐ฌ๐ž๐œ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ prison, located at Khampacamp in Bidur Municipality, immediately along the banks of Trishuli River, sustained partial damage with portions of its outer perimeter walls smashed and washed away, while one building block was inundated by floodwaters and debris.

HM team established an ๐ข๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ข๐ฆ ๐ฐ๐š๐ญ๐ž๐ซ ๐ญ๐ซ๐ž๐š๐ญ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง within the prison facility from Tuesday to Saturday, where a more permanent intervention is put in place.

๐‘๐‘ข๐‘ค๐‘Ž๐‘˜๐‘œ๐‘ก, 4 ๐‘†๐‘’๐‘ โ€” Under direction of the Nepali NDRRMA last Sunday, HM deployment in Nepal yesterday completed its first tranche of procurement, packing and deliveries of industrial protective gears to support the health safety of frontline search and recovery teams (from biological hazards) at worst-hit Nuwakot and Rasuwa during this acute emergency phase.

As in any major disaster with massive and extensive destruction, especially in high altitude mountainous regions with webs of rivers, access to numerous affected sites is a critical challenge. The situation badly requires bridges to allow search-and-recovery teams and heavy machineries access to the numerous pockets of devastated areas, and for relief groups to reach and serve stranded communities.

Amidst widespread destruction, challenging terrains, frequent rains, and sporadic landslides, HM members who served at the massive Gorkha quakes in 2015, observed that overall response is better coordinated.

HMโ€™s 4-member deployment arrived Nepal last Saturday and headed to hard-hit Nuwakot municipality, which is also the launching base for response operations . The team met with Nepali Home Affairs Minister Sudan Gurung (who personally and actively oversees the national disaster management) to better understand directly on the focus, challenges, concerns and requirements relating to the ongoing floods response.

HM is supporting hydration needs of survivors, and health safety needs of frontline service personnel.

The scale of physical devastation is massive, with long stacks of huge boulders, and multi-storey structures buried by mud. More human bodies (decomposed) are uncovered daily as personnel tirelessly continue to clear the pathways of debris left by the downslope tsunami. Many affected locations are still not accessible to response teams, as over 20 bridges had been swept away.
