Mother’s Day has just passed. Many of us celebrate the mothers in our lives, and rightly so. But behind the rosy celebrations, warm meals, and happy faces, we tend to forget the struggles they carry everyday.
It is not only the big battles, but also the small ones, that can feel overwhelming. For many working mothers, it is the quiet tension of wanting to work hard for their families while also wanting to be present for their children. It can feel like a never-ending tussle between giving one’s best at work, which often means time away from family, and being there for the moments and milestones that matter.
Written from the perspective of her son Felix, this piece by Au Hoi Ting, Senior Counsellor at FAM (MWS), offers a deeply personal glimpse into her journey as a first-time mother.
Through Felix’s eyes, she reflects on the unseen fears, emotions, and questions that can come with motherhood, while highlighting that besides physical care, young children often need the time, presence, and connection of their parents in a fast-moving world.
As we continue celebrating mothers this month, may we acknowledge the difficulties they face, and remember that every parent is trying to raise their children and care for their families in the best way they can. In both small and big ways, let’s continue to support one another with empathy, kindness, and care. 💙🩵
