What if plastic could be strong, recyclable, and derived from bamboo?

Researchers in China have recently demonstrated this possibility. The newly developed 𝐛𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐨𝐨-𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐢𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 is engineered at the molecular level to achieve high mechanical strength, heat stability (above 180°C), and compatibility with standard industrial molding processes.

🔹 Fully biodegradable in soil within 50 days
🔹 Recyclable in a closed-loop process while retaining most of its strength
🔹 Produced from fast-growing bamboo, a highly renewable resource

This development represents a meaningful step toward reducing reliance on conventional oil-based plastics and advancing more sustainable material alternatives.

Bamboo is a highly renewable resource, and its cellulose fibres can be turned into a hard, mouldable plastic for use in cars and appliances

𝗜𝗔𝗔𝗦 𝗮𝘁 𝗖𝗢𝗣𝟯𝟬｜𝗧𝘄𝗼 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗦𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗺

Over the past days at the 𝗖𝗢𝗣𝟯𝟬 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻, IAAS successfully completed two cornerstone sessions:
𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 (𝗜𝗠𝗔) and 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆-𝗶𝗻-𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 (𝗙𝗶𝗙) 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆.

Both sessions reflected what IAAS stands for — 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀.
From mangrove-based blue-carbon aquaculture to converting biowaste into clean energy, our message was clear:
🔹 Innovation must work in the real world
🔹 Climate action must be scalable
🔹 Sustainability must be built on viable business models

We are grateful for the full-house audiences, meaningful questions, and partners who share our belief that sustainability and profitability can—and must—advance together.

As COP30 continues, IAAS will keep engaging with government agencies, innovators, and global partners to transform tropical solutions into global capabilities.
