For the first time at the third “Hawker’s Table” and charity luncheon held in the heart of Chinatown, The Singapore Association for the Deaf (SADeaf) was invited to bring together the Deaf community and Chinatown elderly residents in one heartwarming and entertaining Sunday afternoon!

On 17th December 2023, Igniters volunteers (seven of us!) were humbled to join hands with SADeaf to offer our support on the day, alongside Anglican High School and Nanyang Polytechnic student volunteers.

Upon being briefed, we set up the communal dining hall; and during the event, dished out 10 various dishes prepared by hawkers from the Chinatown Complex Food Centre to guests, including event GOH Ms Denise Phua, Mayor of Central Singapore and MP for Jalan Besar GRC; as well as made rounds among Chinatown residents and event sponsors with SADeaf donation boxes!

Riveting on-stage performances from getai artists, joined by sign language dance group Signifique, put a smile to the faces of both seniors and the Deaf participants.
