Homeless Hearts of Singapore

Homeless Hearts of Singapore Stories of our homeless and stay-out friends in Singapore... and also stories of God's amazing love

We are a team of volunteers who hope to inspire and start movements of fellow Singaporeans to start their own small homeless outreach groups likewise. Just two or three, can already, who will take time to see - and stop for the one in need. HHOS is a secular outreach based on Christian values (as the co-founders are Christians). But itโ€™s open to all - regardless of race, language or religion. So w

e hope to help them in whatever ways possible, whether advocating for them, or befriending, or ministering to them - both to the homeless and those who have houses but are homeless in heart. Thus, our team takes a relational approach in helping the homeless, and help them find and get to the relevant social services. We also enjoy partnering with fellow like-minded and like-hearted community partners who care for our homeless friends too. Stop for the ONE in need โ€“ that's our motto and modus operandi! So do feel free to PM us any articles or tip-offs of any homeless people in Singapore, and we'll do our best to visit them! :)

We recently had dinner with our homeless friends and it was a feast where we shared good food with them. Good food really helps to bond with them and it was funny how there was never-ending good food. We chatted and we laughed together. We ate until we were so full of food and our hearts were full of gratitude. They surprised one of our volunteers for his birthday and it was so heartwarming to see how they are always there for us too! :) ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

From Shelter to Sanctuary: The S3P (night shelter) Transformation is Happening Now ๐Ÿ’›

Dear Supporters and Friends,
Do you remember our vision to turn our S3P night shelters into โ€œRetreat Placesโ€ for the homeless and rough sleepers? Today, we are thrilled to update that this transformation has begun!

๐ŸŽจ Mural painting has begun at the S3P@Yio Chu Kang Chapel, and we are working together with our community to create spaces of refreshment, recovery, and renewal.

Why does this matter? Because we listened.

Many of our stayers shared that when they first arrive, they often feel disoriented,
uncertain, and struggle to find a sense of belonging. We believe we can do more.

Research shows that environment and ambience can significantly impact emotional well-being. Thatโ€™s why we are working towards creating warmer, more welcoming spaces with thoughtful touches like cosy communal areas, better lighting, convenient charging points, and even quiet corners for reflection.

Because even if the stay is temporary, it matters.

To our supporters and friendsโ€”thank you. This transformation is only possible because of you. Your support is helping us move beyond shelter, into spaces that restore dignity and hope.

If this resonates with you, we warmly invite you to be part of this journeyโ€”whether through giving, volunteering, or sharing this initiative. Together, we can create not just shelters, but places of healing, belonging, and community. ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿซถ

Our homeless friends are amazing storytellers as they share their life stories and experiences with us whenever we meet them. All the challenges that they have overcome, all of the milestones in their lives and the interesting aspects of their journey. We have learnt how some of our homeless friends used to be highflyers in banks, used to run businesses and some had interesting journeys such as travelling the world as a ship captain/seaman, representing Singapore in a world cup in North Korea in the 1980s, working in the police force/serving the army as an officer and being a pimp and staying in a brothel. Some have gone through so many hardships such as breakups, divorces, deaths, separations, debts, family violence, incarcerations, conflicts, loss of jobs, health issues, scams, disappointments, loneliness, homelessness, addictions, depression, regrets, guilt, shame, abandonment, etc. We can learn so much from our homeless friends and their journey. They always share very important wisdom, knowledge and advice with us. Sometimes they feel lonely and they want to talk to us, sometimes it's because they want to share with us as they are grateful and generous. When we befriend them, we also grow as a person and these are priceless memories! :) ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

Two of our homeless friends finally moved into their HDB rental flat after waiting for some time and as our other homeless friends there moved into their HDB rental flats, they were encouraged to get a house of their own too. With the support of their social worker, they were able to get a house of their own too. We had a housewarming dinner with them at their house and they have been coping well at their new neighbourhood! :) ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

Our monthly gathering with our homeless friends where we chatted with our homeless friends and just being present for one another! Our homeless friends shared about their concerns of applying for HDB rental flat because of having to stay with another person and they learn from their lived experiences. One of them was chased out from his HDB rental flat while the other one was afraid to apply for one because of fear of conflicts with his flatmate. They bonded over similar experiences and concerns. It was nice to hear their stories and experiences which are very valued. Amazingly our gathering all happened spontaneously within minutes! :) ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

Grateful to enjoy a good breakfast with our homeless friends where we checked in on them, and had meaningful conversations. Sometimes we do not have enough time to chat with our homeless friends during our outreaches at night, so when we have breakfast with them, it allows us to spend more time with them in a setting which is away from where they are sleeping :) ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

It's so cool how the HDB rental flat application form now includes a question about where the applicant is staying and the possible responses are workplace, shelter, prison and rough sleeping. Because this shows that many HDB rental flat applicants are possibly homeless and are in different types of homelessness such as primary, secondary and tertiary. And it's also so nice to see how the government agencies such as HDB are making their processes more homeless-friendly/inclusive! :) ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

We are very grateful to share a meal with our homeless friends, being there for them and all that matters is that they are okay and that we can spend time with them together! It's so nice to see how our homeless friends are so welcoming to us and take great care of us ensuring that we are okay and offering help whenever possible. A meal allows our homeless friends from different locations to know one another and learn from one another's lived experiences! :) ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป
